David P. Smith

David P. Smith,99, of Callicoon, NY passed away peacefully on 13 June, 2025. He served in the Navy during World War II, serving from 1943-1946, in the Pacific theatre. He earned the American Theatre medal, the Asiatic Pacific medal with two stars,and the Philippines Liberation medal with one star, while serving aboard USS Mazama, AE-9 and USS Gladiator, AM-319.
David (Buddy)Smith was born on October 3,1925 to Patrick and Catherine Smith of Staten Island, NY., one of 18 children. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Patricia for 30 years. He is survived by his stepson Thomas, his wife Rae, stepdaughter Susan, her husband Frank, 5 Grandchildren, and 8 Great grandchildren.
A retired federal civil servant, Buddy was known for his generosity,sense of humor, love of country and was an avid golfer. He will be remembered by his many friends for his dedication to his family, country and his church, Holy Cross in Callicoon, NY.
A memorial service will be held at a later date to be determined. Dave's final resting place will in the Columbaria Garden at St. Peter's Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.
