Derrick Lynn Young September 15, 1962 – December 31, 2024
With hearts heavy yet full of gratitude for the life he lived, we announce that Derrick Lynn Young, 62, of Lefors, Texas, entered the eternal embrace of his gracious Savior on Tuesday, December 31, 2024.
Born on September 15, 1962, in Pampa, Texas, Derrick was the youngest son of Archie and Evelyn Young. Raised in Pampa, he attended local schools and became well-known for his remarkable athletic abilities in football and track and field. After completing his senior year, Derrick began his career in the oilfield industry at just 17. His industrious spirit led him to various roles in the industry, including offshore drilling in California. Derrick's entrepreneurial drive inspired him to start a successful car detailing business before eventually returning to Pampa, where he worked at Cabot for over 20 years until his retirement.
Derrick's life was a tapestry of love and resilience. During his first marriage to Pietra Young, he was blessed with three beautiful daughters, who were the light of his life. In God's perfect timing, Robin entered his life, and together they built a marriage founded on faith, devotion, and an unbreakable bond. On December 20, 2003, Derrick and Robin were united in marriage, beginning a beautiful partnership filled with faith, love, and joy.
A man of deep faith and unshakable hope, Derrick returned to Texas to fulfill his dream of living in the countryside, where he felt the profound presence of God in every sunrise and starry night. Derrick loved exploring the open road, with California's serene beaches holding a special place in his heart. The ocean, to him, was a sanctuary of peace and reflection. At home, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling the open road. He immersed himself in prayer, Bible studies, and the teachings of Chuck Smith, growing ever closer to Christ. Derrick's unwavering faith made him a fierce prayer warrior, whose promises to pray for others were heartfelt and steadfast.
To know Derrick was to be touched by his kindness, humor, and radiant smile. He had a gift for lifting spirits, often with a joke or witty remark, and his genuine love for people was evident in every interaction. Derrick's life was a testament to representing Christ through action-spreading love, offering encouragement, and embracing all with open arms. As Derrick stepped into eternity, a heavenly reunion awaited him with his mother, Evelyn Williams; stepfather, Jessie Williams; father, Archie Young; brother, Avery Young; niece Jacqueline Osby-Matthews and grandson, O'Shea Nathaniel Jones Jr.
Those who remain to carry his legacy include his devoted wife and soulmate, Robin Young of Lefors; his six children, Passion Young of Long Beach, CA, Secret and Raymond McGinnis of Perris, CA, Kyree and D'Andrea McCrary of Perris, CA, Sarah Sakamoto of Amarillo, Mark and Tracie Brunson of Lakewood, CA, Timothy and Brianna Brunson of Amarillo, and13 grandchildren; Rylie, Roni McGinnis, Kenyon Wrenn, Taya McCrary, O'Shea Nathaniel Jones Jr., Brody, Elizabeth, Tristan, Emily, Corik, Benjie, Scarlet, and Violet Brunson; two brothers, Steve Young of Dallas and Wayne Young of Liberal, KS; three sisters, Shirley Mae Osby, Paulene Young, and Deborah Young; along with countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who will forever cherish his memory.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Faith Bible Church, officiated by Pastor Craig Raber and Gary Sutherland. Derrick's cremation care has been entrusted to Winegeart Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Faith Bible Church at 701 S. Cuyler Street, Pampa, TX 79065.
