Dorothy LaRayne Slagle
1947 -2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Cousin and Friend, Dorothy LaRayne Slagle, 77, of Kettle Falls, Washington, Saturday, March 29, at 2:20 am, with loving friends by her side at Providence Mount Carmel Hospital, Colville, Washington.
Dorothy was born in Kettle Falls, Washington, on July 23,1947, to Jefferson Henry and Mildred Flora (Moore) Slagle. During her school years she worked at a family run business, the Geiger Counter on Kettle Falls Main Street, where she earned enough money to buy her very own car. Before graduating from Kettle Falls High School, she was crowned Miss Kettle Falls in 1964. After graduating high school, Dorothy was married, became a mother of two children and began a career as a nurse at Eastern State Hospital in Medical Lake, Washington. She then went on to other careers in Oregon, Colorado, Canada and then back to Washington where she was Mayor of Kettle Falls for two terms and owner/operator of Ralphs Tavern. She was an exceptionally creative illustrator, an inspiring friend, and was known for her instinctive ability to comfort, support and facilitate healing in others. Dorothy will be remembered for her special way of connecting with others and making a positive mark in her community. We loved her dearly and she will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her three brothers.
Survivors include her beloved children, Samantha Staples (Duluth, Minnesota), Robert Staples (Spokane, Washington), 8 Grandchildren and 8 Great-Grandchildren; loving Sister-in-law (Alice Slagle), Blended family, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. Extended family which includes the last names of Steiner, Kendall, Blanck, Bryan; and countless friends.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
