Edward "Ed" Wayne Howard

Edward “Ed” Wayne Howard, 79, of North Manchester, Indiana passed away at 4:37 a.m. Friday, August 8, 2025, at AMG Specialty Hospital in Muncie, Indiana. He was born on June 11, 1946 in Richmond, Virginia.

Ed was a 1964 graduate of Manchester High School. He then served his country in the United States Navy. He retired from Millwright Union Local 1076 and was a past member of The American Legion Post 286. Ed married Carla Christie on March 18, 1977. He was devoted to his wife for almost 50 years and lived his life for his family and grandchildren each and every day. Ed enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing guitar, IU basketball, and anything that his grandchildren were involved in.

Ed is survived by his loving wife, Carla Howard; three daughters, Shannon (Dick) Tracy of Wabash, Indiana, Cara Howard of North Manchester, Indiana and Christa (Brian) Crabill of Urbana, Indiana; five grandchildren, Devin (Madison) Tracy, Lagro, Indiana, Catherine Tracy and Eric Tracy both of Wabash, Indiana, Issiac (Madisen) Mitchell, Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Everett Crabill, Urbana, Indiana; one great-granddaughter, Leighton Jane Tracy of Lagro, Indiana; one sister, Lu Owens-Music, North Manchester, Indiana; one brother Lawrence “Larry” Howard, North Manchester, Indiana; also Frencesca Oliveri, Ft. Wayne Indiana; and many nieces and nephews. Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Bertha Howard, 3 sisters, Opal Meck, Ora Gillend and Jeannie Johnson; five brothers, Mitchell Howard Sr, Hatcher Howard, Wade Howard, Kendle Howard and Fred Howard Jr, George Montgomery Jr.; and his mother and father- in-law, Robert and Merlee Christie.

Family and friends may call Wednesday, August 13, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, Indiana. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 14, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. with calling beginning at 9:00 a.m. with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. Burial will be held at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Urbana, Indiana.
