Erika Berry Obituary

Published by Legacy from Sep. 17 to Oct. 1, 2025.
Erika Lee (Compton) Berry, age 56, of Elkland, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 14, 2025, after a short battle with Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS). Up until the end Erika maintained her kindness, charismatic view of the world, appreciation of animals, and the love she had for her family and friends.
She was born on February 17, 1969, in Houston, Missouri, to Elmer Compton and Phillis Wood. Her stepmother, Patsy Compton, came into her life at a very young age and raised her as her own. She attended and graduated from Cabool High School with the class of 1987. Erika was a loving wife, mother, stepmother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, stepsister, and friend.
Erika married the love of her life, Mike Berry, in 2005. Together they conjoined their individual families into a family filled with laughter, love, and countless memories. She is survived by her daughter, Jasmine Key and her boyfriend, Alex Dobson; stepchildren, Trina Hoag and her boyfriend, Brett Woody, Michael Berry and his wife, Caryn Berry, and Tonya Jones. Erika's greatest joy was her grandchildren-Kailey, Jacob, Landon, Logan, and Isaac-and her great-granddaughters, Alanna and Lainey. She also treasured her "bonus kids" and "bonus grandkids," loving them as her own.
She is also survived by her stepmother, Patsy Compton. Siblings and stepsiblings, Tami and Doug Hartsell, Camela Berry, Kimberly Wilson, Jimmy Underwood, Bradley Compton, Deanne Creed, Patty Billingham, Brenda Larkin, Debbie Spencer, Rodney Harrison, Also, by many special friends, especially Melodie and all the girls she worked with during her time as a housekeeper at Arbor Suites Medical Mile.
Erika was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Compton; Father-in-law Brady Berry; Brother- in-law Jeff Berry; and her beloved daughter, Kayla Berry.
Erika's heart was boundless-she never judged and always gave of herself. She had a way of welcoming everyone in, offering help whenever she could. She was happiest surrounded by the people she loved. Whether going to Jasmine's to enjoy a home-cooked meal, catching up with Trina, Brett, and Landon at dinner at Colton's Steakhouse or Buffalo Wild Wings or cheering for Landon on the football field a couple years back. She loved visiting Silver Dollar City with family and friends. While she wasn't fond of the rides, she found joy in watching her loved ones have fun, being outdoors, and enjoying the delicious food and wonderful smells throughout the park. Erika especially cherished watching her daughter, Kayla, during her cheer days at Hillcrest High School and took great pride in being a devoted cheer mom. She loved looking at photos on Facebook of her kids and grandchildren, sharing their accomplishments with pride.
Her love for animals was one of her defining traits, she never turned away a creature in need and adored her dogs dearly. Throughout the years, you would always find Beethoven, Winston, or Tinkerbell on her lap. She loved camping, fishing, riding four-wheelers, shopping online, and treating herself to her favorite meals. Music was also a joy in her life-she especially cherished attending an REO Speedwagon concert with her husband and listening to Morgan Wallen songs. Erika also loved unicorns, flowers (especially hydrangeas), nature, and playing games on her phone.
She will be remembered for her kindness, understanding, and unwavering love of family, friends, and the outdoors. Her memory will live on in the laughter of her grandchildren, the beauty of the wild places she loved, and the hearts of all who knew her.
On Wednesday, October 8th, at 6:30 pm, her family and friends will gather at Rivermonte Memorial Gardens Chapel to celebrate a life that touched so many. Cremation will follow her service, and her final wish is to be laid to rest where the wild horses run free.
As we say goodbye, we hold close the words from The Fox and the Hound: "Goodbye may seem forever, farewell is like the end, but in my heart is a memory and there you'll always be."
