It is with profound sadness that the family of Gary Martinez, 67, of Clovis, California, share that he passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on January 23, 1958, in Ulysses, Kansas, he attended elementary school in Easton, California, and graduated from high school in 1976 from Washington Union High School, in Fresno, California.
Gary was a devoted husband to his wife, Debbie Martinez, of 36 years. They are the very proud parents to three children, Michael Martinez, Nicholas Martinez, and Brandon Martinez. Gary was also a father figure to Bobbie Mayo. Together, Gary and Debbie are passionately dedicated to a beautiful 1-year-old grandson, Zyrus Martinez. His children always felt the fierce and protective love provided by their parents, and the passing of Gary leaves a void his family will feel forever.
Gary was a Plasterer for Broege Construction for 24 years. He was known for his hard work, dedication to his employer, and support of those he supervised. His positive work ethic and great sense of humor earned him respect and love. Over the years, past retirement, Gary continued to work as a handyman and was "on-call" for family needs.
Gary was a talented cook! He loved to barbecue for his family and friends at holiday gatherings and just about anyone who said they were hungry! They enjoyed eating out together in celebration of every little moment that mattered to them. He and his family loved the outdoors. They travelled the western United States together, caravaning trailers behind big trucks, and exploring destination spots. They regularly traveled to see their son out of state and always made the trek adventurous.
Over the years, Gary and Debbie volunteered their time and support at many Fresno community events and fundraisers over the years. Gary enjoyed Mexican and country music, and was a good dancer. The shared memories of his family reflect Gary was a kind and compassionate man, a strong provider to his family who taught all his boys the skillsets he learned in his profession. His sense of humor and ability to easily laugh at lifes circumstances are reflected in the young men he raised with his wife.
Gary is survived by his siblings, MaryJane Olivas and her family, Sylvia Gonzales and her family, and Dan Martinez and his family.
Gary is preceded in death by his father, Albert Matinez, and his mother, Irene Martinez.
Gary and his wife, Debbie, enjoyed a group of friends over the past several years that became family and helped create so many good memories.
Gary will be so deeply missed, but his love and legacy will live on in the lives he touched.
