Gary Peterson

Gary John Peterson, 72, passed away on February 18, 2025, in Powell, Ohio.

Born on March 20, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois, Gary lived a life marked by resilience, faith, and devotion to his family. He began his career as a police officer with the Aurora Police Department in Aurora, Colorado. However, his time in law enforcement was unexpectedly cut short due to a brain tumor. By the mercy and grace of God, he miraculously survived and went on to earn a college degree. He remained dedicated to the security field, working as an investigator for a bank before embarking on a long and fulfilling career with FedEx as a security specialist. His passion for providing security and conducting investigations was evident throughout his professional life.

Gary's faith was central to who he was. He loved the Lord deeply and maintained a lifelong relationship with Jesus. Psalm 139 held special meaning for him, reflecting his unwavering trust in God's plan. His kindness, loyalty, and sense of humor-often expressed through corny dad jokes-brought joy to those around him.

Family was at the heart of Gary's life. He is survived by his beloved wife, Debbie; his children Sean Erik (Jennifer), Shannon, John, Julie, and Josh (Anna); and his cherished grandchildren Megan, Josh, and Sarah. He also leaves behind his brother Russ (Pat); nieces Jennifer; Becky (David); Wendy (Brannan); Kristi (Tim); nephew Jeff (Heather); as well as numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Mildred; his sister Donna; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Gary found great joy in spending time with his family. Whether fishing or camping or watching the Denver Broncos or gathering with extended family for celebrations, he treasured these moments deeply. He could always be counted on for words of wisdom, encouragement, prayer-and of course-a joke or two to lighten the mood. His love for those around him was steadfast and unwavering; he prayed daily for each member of his family and many others.

Gary's presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. His legacy of faith, love, and laughter will live on in the hearts of those he touched. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.

Memorial to be held at some time in the coming year in Colorado, where his remains will be laid to rest.
