Henton Dale Smith, Jr., affectionately known as JR, was born on June 12, 1976, in Gainesville, Florida. He departed this world far too soon on January 23, 2025, while in the care of UF Health Shands, leaving behind a legacy that will resonate deeply within the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

A dedicated mechanic, JR earned a reputation as a “great mechanic” and an “all-around good guy,” reflecting his commitment not just to his craft, but also to the people who surrounded him. His hands, skilled in the trade, could be found tirelessly working under the hood of a car, where he felt most at home. But the essence of his being extended far beyond tools and engines; it was draped in laughter, compassion, and the simple joys of life.

JR held a love for fishing. Those were moments spent by the water's edge, perhaps casting a line with a quiet determination, or simply soaking in the calmness of nature. These reflections reveal a man who cherished life's small pleasures, and his spirit was indelibly influenced by the tranquility he found outdoors.

He is mourned by his beloved daughters, Kendra Leann Smith of White Springs and Kirsten Gail Smith of Lake Butler. His presence will be sorely missed by his father, Henton Dale Smith, Sr., of Providence, and his mother, Gail Adams, of Kissimmee; brother, Aaron (Tracy) Smith of Lake Butler and their daughter, Kolby Smith. The threads of love were woven through his relationship with his girlfriend, Amanda Crews of Lake Butler, and her son, Jacob.

A visitation will be held in honor of JR on February 1, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Archer-Milton Funeral Home in Lake Butler, Florida. A gathering that promises to encapsulate the warmth of his spirit, celebrating the life of a man whose laughter and kindness will linger long after his departure.
