James C. Williams Sr., a devoted Christian, beloved father, and respected veteran, peacefully departed this life at the age of 89. Born on April 18, 1936, in Madison, Arkansas, to the late Homer and Rae Mae Williams, James lived a life marked by faith, service, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.
James graduated from Lincoln High School in Forrest City, Arkansas, in 1956. That same year, he joined the United States Army, where he served honorably as an Army medic. After completing his active-duty service, he moved to Chicago, Illinois, and continued his military career in the Illinois National Guard, retiring in April 1987.
Professionally, James was a highly respected medical laboratory technician. He served in hospitals, trauma centers, and blood banks throughout the Chicago area. Even after retirement, his commitment to service continued as he worked as a school bus driver for the Joliet School District until 2016. He was known by many for saying his famous phrase "alright, alright" upon picking up and dropping of the students.
James confessed his faith in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Madison Light Baptist Church in Madison, Arkansas. His spiritual journey remained central to his life, and he was an active and cherished member of Agape Christian Church in San Antonio, Texas, at the time of his passing.
He was united in marriage to the late Deola Williams, who preceded him in death on May 12, 2016.
Their union was blessed with two daughters: Juliet Johns and Vanessa Cameron (both of whom preceded him in death), and three sons: Stanley Williams (wife Stephanie), James Williams Jr. (wife Nerryl), and Alexander Williams (wife Sharon).
James was also preceded in death by his beloved sisters: Thelma Williams, Velma Bryson, Tempie Moorehead, Lucretia Williford, Willie Mae Graham, Marjorie Black, and Evelyn Tubbs.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his brother, Homer Williams Jr.; his three sons and their spouses; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever remember his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering faith.
A memorial service celebrating the life of James C. Williams Sr. will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Agape Christian Church, 14303 Judson Rd., San Antonio, TX 78233.
James's life was a testament to the values of faith, family, and service. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the Activity and Recreation Center (Normal, IL) where James was an integral part of this senior community.
