A private family memorial service is being planned at the family farm.
A native of Greenville, John was born on July 14, 1957 and was the son of the late John LeRoy Howard and Melba Brown Stallings. He attended Woodbury Forest School and was a 1975 graduate of J. H. Rose High School. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and later received his undergraduate and Master's in Business Administration degrees from East Carolina University. John worked for a number of years for Greenville Tobacco Company and later was a Teaching Instructor in the College of Business at East Carolina University. In May of 2014, following his retirement, he took to being a gentleman farmer on his family's farm in Bethel where he enjoyed many happy days.
John will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and his love for animals.
He is survived by:
Sister, Hannah H. DeSoto and husband, Robert L. "Bob" DeSoto, of Emerald Isle;
Nephews, Jake DeSoto and Brian DeSoto.
