John Thomas Myers, 79, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025 in Phoenix, Arizona.
John was born on January 11, 1945, in Struthers, Ohio, to Frank and Helen (Kovach) Myers. A natural athlete, John was a standout basketball and baseball player at Struthers High School where he graduated in 1962 and is a member of the SHS hall of fame. His talent led him to a scholarship at Arizona State University, where he proudly represented the Sun Devils on the basketball team and earned a bachelor's degree in education in 1966.
After college, John who acquired the nickname of "Cid" and "the Big Guy" went on to play semi-pro basketball in Europe for 2 years. He then became a part owner of the bar "The Cottage". Upon the selling of his beloved Cottage" in 1996, he went on to work for the BMV until retirement in 2015
An avid supporter of Arizona sports, John loved cheering on the Arizona Diamondbacks, Suns, and Cardinals, as well as following all golf tournaments. He also found great joy on the golf course, spending countless days enjoying the sport he loved. He also loved to go on a good fishing trip and enjoyed his daily crossword puzzles from the newspaper.
John is survived by his brother Lawrence W. (Marilyn) Myers; many nieces and nephews; and many lifelong friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Helen Myers; his brother Frank (Dolores) Myers; his sister Margaret; and his nephew Lawrence A. Myers. John also leaves behind the cherished memories of many close friends who were like family to him.
John's humor, warmth, and love for life left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. He will be remembered for his laughter, his unwavering loyalty, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. He will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all whose lives he brightened.
