John Plessinger Obituary

John W. Plessinger, Jr., 91, of Palmyra, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Thursday, October 2, 2025. He was born November 23, 1933 to the late John W. Plessinger, Sr. and Gladys P. (Ciecierski) Plessinger. He is survived by his loving wife of over 72 years, Joyce R. (Wilkins) Plessinger.
John was a man devoted to his family and community, finding joy in life's simple pleasures and meaningful connections. He cherished spending time with his loved ones-whether it was playing baseball with his son, enjoying the laughter of his grandchildren, or sharing quiet moments with his beloved wife.
An avid outdoorsman, John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening, and took pride in his work as a landscaper. He was also a dedicated member of his bowling league and loved playing horseshoes with friends and family. His faith was central to his life; he served as a Sunday school teacher and youth leader, touching many young lives with his kindness and wisdom.
John graduated from Lewistown High School in 1952 and went on to have a long and accomplished career, retiring as Director of Quality Assurance with The Hershey Company. His work ethic, integrity, and sense of humor left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Above all, John will be remembered for the love he gave so freely to his family, his unwavering dedication, and the joy he found in the everyday moments.
John is survived by his children, John K. Plessinger, Debra J. Risser, and Beth Ann Ginder and husband Rick; four grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren with one on the way; brother Robert Plessinger. He is predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Plessinger and granddaughter, Candace Risser.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at 6 p.m., at Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, PA 17078. A time of viewing will be held from 5 p.m. until the start of the service. Burial will be private at Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra.

I met John at Community Bible Church many years ago, John was an amazing inspiration in my life by showing me what a man of God is. He was kind, funny, caring and so easy to talk to. Full of love for the Lord and it showed in his actions. I enjoyed every moment we shared though I have not seen John for some time he has and will always be in my memories. God Bless the family in this time of sorrow.

Last Thursday evening my Big Brother was called home by our Father in Heaven. I have no doubt that as John reached out to touch the hand of God, the Angels sang.
Despite John´s absence from our midst leaves us with a hollow feeling,
loving memories remain in our hearts till we meet again.
John life was devoted to Christ. He was a devoted family man. Always willing to lend a hand and share his extraordinary talents with others. He was slow to anger or criticize, preferring instead to accentuate the positive side of things.
John was an excellent athlete, despite not participating in organized
Athletic programs at LJHS . John´s prowess as an athlete was well respected by his peers as they played at Dixon Field, while baseball was his forte, hand him a football and he was gone! And, as respects basketball, his "fade away jump shot" was renown.
I idolized and loved my Big Brother.
