Juan M. Garcia, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather from Santa Fe, New Mexico, was called to his eternal home on January 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 24, 1933, in Logan, New Mexico, to Juan Fermin Garcia and Necolasita (Cordova) Garcia, Juan lived a life full of love and service.
Juan is survived by Juanita his devoted wife of 68 years, and his children: Marshall and Miche Garcia, Luana and Jerry Montoya, and Patrick and Jacqueline Garcia. He also leaves behind his brother Joe and Roberta Garcia. His cherished grandchildren include Marshall Jr. Garcia and Ren Gallardo, Dominic and Ashlee Garcia, Johnette and Aaron Sanchez, Jerald Montoya, Alexander Garcia, Rachel and Jake Mills, and Joseph Garcia. Juan was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Jada Montoya and Athena Montoya, Julian and Aspen Sanchez, Ellie Garcia, and Oliver and Adeline Mills.
Juan is preceded in death by his parents, Juan Fermin and Necolasita Garcia; his brothers, Jimmy, Steve, Ralph, Fermin, Antonio (Tony) and Alfred Garcia; and his sisters, Ramona Peachy, Louisa Ramirez, Rita Crespin and Lucy Garcia.
Juan proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He dedicated many years to the Santa Fe Police Department, retiring as Assistant Chief in 1984. Following his retirement, he became the Director of Transportation for the Santa Fe Public School system. Juan earned a Bachelor of Arts from the College of Santa Fe in 1974 and attended the FBI National Academy in 1978.
Juan enjoyed a long and fulfilling life. He deeply loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His passions included fishing, gardening, exercising (he was an excellent racquetball player), and building and fixing anything. Juan was also an accomplished marksman shooter and enjoyed shooting competitions. Juan was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by many.
We will celebrate Juans life with a viewing from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on February 10 at the Berardinelli Chapel. A Rosary at 9:00 am followed by Mass at 10:00 am on February 11, 2025, at St. Anne Catholic Church.
