Katherine Ann Gordon, 70, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025, in Smithfield, North Carolina. Born on July 23, 1954, in Raleigh, North Carolina, she lived a life marked by dedication to her work, deep love for her family, and a generous spirit that touched all who knew her.
Known affectionately as Kathy, she graduated from Wake Technical Institute in 1976 with a major in Criminal Justice. Her passion for justice and service led her to a long and fulfilling career at the City-County Bureau of Identification (CCBI) of Wake County. For 30 years, Kathy served as a Processing Supervisor, where her diligence and commitment earned the respect of colleagues and the gratitude of the community.
Kathy's life was rich with interests that reflected her curiosity and joy in simple pleasures. She was an avid collector of rare coins and stamps, finding beauty and history in each piece. Her adventurous side came alive during gem mining trips in search of rubies and emeralds-activities that brought her both excitement and serenity. She also enjoyed watching movies, often immersing herself in stories that sparked laughter or reflection. Yard sales were another favorite pastime; whether hosting or attending them, Kathy delighted in the hunt for hidden treasures and the chance to connect with others.
Family was at the heart of everything Kathy did. She is lovingly remembered by her sisters Joyce G. Manshack and Bonnie G. Cotton along with Bonnie's husband Michael C. Cotton; sister-in-law Betty B. Gordon; eleven nieces and nephews; eleven great-nieces and great-nephews; and six great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Each one held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her father Robert N. Gordon; mother Dorothy Ann (Nordan) G. Hunter; brother Robert N. Gordon Jr.; sister Patsy G. Greer and brother-in-law Billy W. Greer; brother-in-law Donny C. Manshack; nieces Amy M. Garr and Angela M. Morris.
Kathy will be remembered not only for her hard work but also for her boundless compassion. She had ears that listened without judgment, arms that embraced with warmth, love that never wavered, and a heart truly made of gold. Her face would light up with joy when she spoke about those she loved-a testament to how deeply she cherished each member of her family.
May Katherine Ann Gordon's memory bring comfort to those who knew her and continue to inspire kindness in all who carry forward her legacy of love and generosity.
