With a profound sense of loss, we announce the passing of Larry Dean Lucas, lovingly known as Larry. He passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with glioblastoma on June 15, 2025.
Born in
Ogden, Utah, on September 8, 1958, Larry lived a life that was both engaging and memorable, leaving a lasting impact on all who were fortunate enough to know him. He was a compassionate man, always ready to extend a helping hand, and a reliable friend who brought laughter and joy into our lives.
Larry was a beacon of light, known for his ambition and humor. He was a dedicated police officer, rising to the rank of Lieutenant in the South Ogden Police Department before his retirement. He was equally dedicated to his faith; he loved attending church and visiting the LDS temple. His commitment to service, both in his career and his faith, was a testament to the verse in Matthew 5:16, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
Larry loved hiking a quiet trail, exploring a new part of the country, or tending to his yard. After he and Teresa retired, they set off on a four-month journey across the United States in their trailer, stopping at every firehouse they could find. He cherished those visits, swapping stories and honoring the brotherhood of service that had shaped so much of his life.
At home, the yard became his sanctuary. Working the soil, trimming the hedges, or planting flowers was never considered a chore-it was a delight that brought him closer to the earth he so loved. His daughters would often pull up to the house to find him sweating in the heat of the day, but he'd always pause to visit. He'd flash a big smile and give one of his side "hover hugs"-left arm held to the side wide open but barely touching - so he wouldn't get them sweaty.
His love extended deeply to his 'fur babies', especially Lola. She was more than a pet-she was a tender mercy during hard times. When Larry was in the hospital, her visits brought comfort that words couldn't. Just being near her lifted his spirits. And Dottie and Pixie, who preceded him in death, was no doubt waiting joyfully at Heaven's gate, tail wagging, ready to greet him with the same love Lola gave him in life.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Teresa Lucas; his daughters, Meresa Lucas, Brigette Streeper, and Shantana Hatjes; his sons-in-law, Jeff Streeper and Court Hatjes; and his cherished grandchildren, Austin, Jessica and Jack Streeper. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, James and Velma Lucas.
We invite you to share your memories of Larry and upload photos to the memorial page. Your stories and pictures will help keep his spirit alive and allow us to remember and honor this remarkable man. As we grieve, we also celebrate Larry's life, remembering the love and laughter he brought to us all.
