Mrs. Leathia Mae Dixon was the daughter of the late John Henry and Pauline S. Langley-Gilbert. She was born in Greenville, N.C. on November 11, 1933. She had three brothers and five sisters. From an early age, Leathia displayed a remarkable spirit of compassion and resilience. She always spoke highly of mirroring the legacy of her grandmother.
Leathia Mae Langley was joined in holy matrimony February 10, 1950, to Ulysses J. Dixon Sr. and from this union they were blessed with nine children. She dedicated her life to serving others. In 1964, they established The Dixon & Son Trucking company. Thereafter, in 1967, came The Dixon Family Grocery Store, serving with her husband and sons. She began her career at North Jersey Developmental Center in Totowa, NJ as the Meese Laundry's Supervisor and retired after 27 years.
Leathia was a devout member of St. Peter Church, where she was known for her warm smile, generous heart, and beautiful style. She knew exactly how to wear a Sunday hat! She touched the lives of everyone she encountered and faithfully served as Mother of the church for many years. Her unwavering faith was a guiding light to her family and community. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her Leathia enjoyed traveling with her family and socializing with her friends. She often spoke of her great friend "Mother Kay" and her Pastor, Bishop-Elect Carl Clark, who she loved as family.
Leathia was well known for her great cooking skills and desserts for which everyone enjoyed. One of her favorite things to do was to cook for her family and friends. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grans. She would make up the coolest songs, rhymes, and games with all of the children. She was definitely "GRAN" to everyone she met.
Leathia will be remembered for her love of family, her dedication to her faith, and her endless kindness to others. Her legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Leathia Mae Dixon was preceded in death by her parents, John Henry and Pauline S. Langley-Gilbert; Husband, Ulysses J. Dixon Sr.; Son, Robert Lee Dixon; Siblings, Henry Langley Jr., Raymond Langley, Wilbert Gillian, Doris Stanley, Minnie Pippins, and Josephine Jones. Daughter-in-Laws, Barbara Dixon and Phyllis Jean Dixon.
Leathia leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Jesse (Phyllis) Dixon of NC, Ulysses J. (Barbara) Dixon Jr. of NC, Louvenia Dixon of NC, Lois (Rev. Dr. Alfonso) Porter, of SC, Benjamin (Cathy) Dixon of NC, William Dixon of NY, Barbara (Randolf) Sumpter of NJ, David (Ernestine) Dixon of NJ, fifty-three grandchildren, a host of great-grands, great-great grands, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
