Leroy Carl Tate, 88, was born May 24th, 1936 in Westmoreland County, VA, to the late William Gatewood Tate and Mary Elizabeth Tate. He married the love of his life Elva Christine Tate on April 24th, 1971. Our beloved Leroy entered into the gates of heaven on March 21, 2025. He joined Jerusalem Baptist Church in Westmoreland County, VA at an early age and later joined Pilgrim Baptist Church in Red Bank, NJ.
He was educated in the Westmoreland County school district. He went on to drive tractor trailer trucks and later established his own trucking business "Tate's Trucking" until he retired. He was very passionate about his career and was a mentor to many, teaching them how to drive trucks.
He was a member of Celestial Lodge #36 in Red Bank, NJ for over 40 years, in which he was a Master Mason. He was very dedicated to his fellow brothers and lodge until the day he entered into eternal life.
Leroy was not only a loyal member and mentor to those who were inspired to drive trucks, but to people in general. He was a true example of a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He touched so many lives with his loyalty, love, kindness, and patience. He always looked at the good in people and the positive in any negative situation. His famous words "Baby it's going to be alright".
He loved travelling to Maryland and Virginia to visit family and friends. He enjoyed taking cruises to various islands. The ultimate joy for him was spending valuable time with his children, grandchildren, and family. He didn't care if he was the only elder in the building as long as he was with his loved ones.
He was predeceased by his parents, William Gatewood Tate and Mary Elizabeth Tate, his loving wife Elva Christine Tate, loving son Joseph Arnold Tate, his brothers William Tate, Asberry Tate, Floyd Tate Sr., and Lewarren Tate. His sisters Dorothy Tate, Margaret Tate, and Berthel Tate-Cotten.
Leroy leaves to cherish his memories are sons, Reginald O. Tate (Edna) and Leroy C. Tate Jr, daughters, Delphine Veney, Jacquelyn T. Hall (Michael), Nichelle L. Tate and Terrice S. Tate (Vernon). Brothers, Lloyd Tate and Norman Tate. Sisters Virgie Parker, Alease Byrd (William), Mary Sandra Young, and Shelia Brown (Simuel). Thirteen grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends. Very special sister in-laws Geraldine Brown and Katherine Ashton.
