Mrs. Chessie Louise Kendall Smith, 89, of Holcomb, passed away Monday, June 9, 2025 at her residence. She was born October 17, 1935 in Cascilla to Rufus Kendall and Myrtle Melton Kendall Byars. Louise worked at Pennaco Hosiery in Grenada for over 35 years. Deeply devoted to her family, Louise enjoyed preparing delicious meals for her family, especially her biscuits. She was a faithful member of the Turkey Foot Fork Church of God of Prophecy.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, June 12, 2025 at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada with Rev. Rob Abel and Rev. Tim Winters officiating. Interment will follow in the Holcomb Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until service time Thursday at McKibben and Guinn.
Survivors include her daughter, Claudine Smith Stevens(Calvin) of Greenwood; son, Gary Michael Smith(Heather) of Holcomb; four grandchildren, Harvey Byars, Tyler Stevens, Aubrey Stevens Ramer(Cody) and Gracie Lott; five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 52 years, J.O. "Tobe" Smith; infant son, Ricky Smith; sisters, Reddie Mae Harris, Fannie V. Scallions and Dena Denley and a brother, Albert R. Kendall.
Harvey Byars, Chad Gray, Lee Melton, Chris Mullen, Dustin Mullen and Tyler Stevens will honor Mrs. Smith by serving as pallbearers and carry her to rest in the Holcomb Cemetery. Sidney Crouch, Charles Melton, Charles Scallions, Melvin Taylor and Jesse Winters will serve as honorary pallbearers.
