Luis Rodolfo Lopez, 81, of Riverview, Florida, passed away suddenly on August 18, 2025.

Luis was born in Leon, Guanajuato Mexico on August 17, 1944, and moved to Milwaukee where he finished his high school degree and learned English as a Second Language at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC). MATC is also where he completed his first 2 years of college before transferring to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees.

Luis went on to have a long and illustrious career at Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) rising from the first Bilingual teacher to being recognized as the first Hispanic Administrator.

Luis' value of education and his experience at MATC propelled him to return to Milwaukee Area Technical College as a part-time faculty in the Adult High School and English as a Second Language (ESL) program where he was dedicated to transforming the lives of adult learners.

Luis' impact was felt community wide as he served in several organizations and boards such Mexican Fiesta, United Community Centre and UMOS.

Luis is lovingly remembered by his wife, Antonia "Linda" (née Rodriguez) Lopez; his children Michele (Larry) Schimke, Angelina (Tom) Bevivino, his stepchildren, Tanya (Dave) Skorstad, and Luis Castillo; grandchildren Jacob Schimke, Megan Schimke, Gianna Bevivino, Luca Bevivino, Emily Skorstad, Christina Castillo and Luis Castillo III; his brothers and sisters as well as nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Luis was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Lopez and Emilia Lopez-Saldana, as well as his brother, Marco Lopez-Saldana.

Luis had a passion for travel, particularly to Mexico and Puerto Rico. He loved spending time with his family and friends and cheering for the Green Bay Packers. Luis was known for his quick wit and sharp sense of humor and brought joy and laughter to those around him.

Luis will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He made anyone he met feel special. His love, kindness, and humor will be deeply missed.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mr Luis Lopez. As my high school teacher, he had a profound influence on my life, not only through his teaching but also through his kindness, patience, and encouragement. The lessons I learned in his classroom went far beyond academics and have stayed with me throughout the years. I will always remember his dedication to students and the genuine care he showed. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
