Luther “Ky” T. Hummel, Jr., 96, passed peacefully and went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 26, 2025.
Luther was born in Luzern County PA. He was a graduate of Lake Township High School class of 1946. As a young man he served in The United States Army Air Corps and spent time in Japan. He primarily lived and raised his family in Orangeville, PA. Luther was a custodian for First Eastern Bank in Bloomsburg, PA for many years. After retirement he was still one of the hardest working men around. He lived the last 12 years with his daughter and her family in Baltimore, OH. He loved working outside and was still doing yard work and proud of it at 95. He was also so proud of his large family!
Luther is survived by his daughters Bonnie (Mike) Vandermark-Geary, Elaine (Harvey) Harrold, Heather (David) Chabot, and Bethann (Shane) Graham; sons Luke Hummel, Rand (Amber) Hummel, John (Beate) Vandermark, and Ron Hummel; 22 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife Betty Ilene (Garrison) Hummel; son Rick Hummel; grandson Dan Hummel; parents Luther T. Hummel, Sr. and Josefa (Lubinski) Hummel; and siblings Josephine Allen, Marcella Loebensberg, Wellington “Dick” Hummel, Rebecca Boone, and Ruth Patrica “Patsy”Szymanski.
Caring Cremation® is taking place through the Johnson-Smith Funeral Home. Services are being planned for Sunday, August 17, 2025 at Cross Roads Baptist Church in Greer, SC.
