Mrs. Mary Jean Davis Mercer, age 71 of Baxter, passed away at 1:52am Monday, May 26, 2025 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center with her loving family by her side.
Mary was born November 22, 1953 in Anderson, Indiana to the late William Woodrow and Vena Dorothy Simmons Davis. She loved to work, spending much of her working career at Wal-Mart, and in her retirement years at Identity Group. Mary loved her Lord and served Him through song and being active at the churches she attended - from singing in a quartet at the New Berlin Road Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida to being a part of the Praise and Worship Team for Oasis Christian Center and Family Harvest Church of God where she played bass and the saxophone. Mary will be fondly remembered for her "Snow White" spirit with the deer and birds on her property. Her greatest joy was being Memaw to her family and a special part of those duties was never forgetting to send a birthday or Christmas card to her extended family.
In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her siblings William Davis, Wesley Davis and Diane Watford.
Surviving family members left to cherish her memory include her husband of 38 years Darrell Mercer
Five children and their spouses: Derrell "Son" and Heidi Shedd, Angela and Steve Barnhart, Andrea and Chris Gonyeau, Landon and Jennifer Mercer, Rusty and Amanda Mercer
Sixteen grandchildren
Thirteen great-grandchildren
Brother: Larry Davis and wife Vivian
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am Thursday, May 29, 2025 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Smith Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-7:00pm Wednesday at Hunter Funeral Home. Son Shedd and Darrell Mercer will officiate.
Andrew Gonyeau, Austin Gonyeau, Peyton Cannon, Brody Pope, Chris Gonyeau and Landon Mercer will serve as pallbearers.
