On May 20, 2025, Mary Alice Thomas Dungan was released from her earthly body and embraced in the arms of Jesus. She was 94 years old. Born in Nashville, TN to Chester and Nancy, she was one of 10 children. In 1949, she married J. Neil Dungan, and they remained married till the time of his death in 2003. Their daughter Mary Elizabeth, made their household complete. Mary Alice was a dedicated seamstress and the high school drill team director's dream come true! She also found joy in quilting, making countless quilts for work and pleasure. Her favorite blankets to quilt were for her loved ones, especially her great-grandbabies. Along with crafting with her hands, she loved to garden, cook, and especially to bake! There was always a cake to find – even if she hadn't planned to share it with you! Her move to Longview in 1994 brought her closer to her family, changing the pace of life and properly introducing her grandchildren to Wheel of Fortune. She was blessed with wonderful neighbors and the constant antics and school activities of her grandchildren. She attended many basketball and football games, choir concerts and even traveled to New York City! When she became Great-Gran, she found her greatest delight in holding babies, feeding them snacks, and watching them grow. The last decade was tough on her body, and the family is thankful for the help, love, and care of family, friends, and caretakers. Carrying on her legacy are her daughter, Beth Averett and her favorite (and only) son-in-law, Gerry, grandchildren Jeneille LaGrone (Chad,) and James Averett (Stephanie) and her beloved great-grandchildren Kelleigh, Gavin, Graysen, Ava, and Adelynne. A graveside service will be held in the mausoleum at Rosewood Park Cemetery in Longview on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 10 am, with the Rev. Bill Blanks officiating.
