Norman L. Whiteley Jr., beloved brother, respected accountant, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025, at the age of 81, at Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Born in Chester, Pennsylvania, he was the firstborn of seven children to Norman Whiteley and Viola Elizabeth (Brown) Whiteley. A distinguished graduate of Chichester High School in 1962 and later the Pennsylvania Military College (now Widener University) in 1966, Norm earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and proudly served with the Delaware Army National Guard.
For 28 years, Norm dedicated his professional life to the DuPont Company, an esteemed corporation where he honed his skills and contributed to its esteemed legacy. Following his retirement, he continued to share his talents with the Xymid Company in Midlothian, Virginia.
Norm's passions extended well beyond his career; he was an avid reader, enjoyed card games, and had a profound love for travel. In 1974, he purchased a home in Selbyville, Delaware, near Fenwick Island. This cherished place became a sanctuary for family gatherings and shared laughter, where he introduced his siblings to the joys of beach life at Fenwick Island and Ocean City, Maryland. Although he had to part with this beloved home in 2021 as Parkinson's Disease made travel increasingly difficult, the fond memories of those weekends by the sea will forever linger in the hearts of his family.
Norman exemplified the qualities of a devoted family member, serving as a beacon of support, especially during challenging times. He devotedly assisted his parents as his mother battled dementia, embodying the love and dedication so characteristic of his nature. He will be remembered for his commitment to education, encouraging his siblings to pursue higher learning and setting a standard of excellence within the family.
Norman lived in Wilmington, Delaware and for a short while Midlothian, VA. In his later years, Norm resided with his sister Ella near Lancaster, Pennsylvania,
Norman was predeceased by his parents Norman L. Whiteley Sr. and Viola Brown Whiteley.
Survivors: his siblings Lois Whiteley Hurst, Dorothy Parkos(Frank), Dr. Joseph Whiteley(Kathy), George Whiteley(Kathy), and Ella Buchannan. Norman is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
VIsitation will be Thursday, April 3, 2025 from 9:30-10:45am at the Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home, 5980 Chichester Ave, Aston, PA 19014. Funeral Service to celebrate the life of Norman L. Whiteley Jr. will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at 11:00am at Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home, 5980 Chichester Ave, Aston. Burial will follow in Silverbroook Cemetery, Wilmington.
Norman L. Whiteley Jr. will be remembered not only for the remarkable life he led but for the love and inspiration he brought to all who were fortunate to know him. May he rest in eternal peace.
