Patricia Ann Mathews
January 11, 1938 - February 28, 2025
Patricia Ann Mathews, our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend was called to be with our heavenly Father on Friday, February 28, 2025.
Patricia was born to Rose M. and Stanley J. Zabukovec on January 11, 1938, in Pueblo, Colorado. She was married to Thomas R. Mathews in 1957, and they were blessed with three sons. Being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother was her greatest gift and the joy of her life.
Patricia retired in 1994 after many years of service at UTEP. Over her career, she worked in the business administration and student services offices. In her last role as Bursar, she oversaw student services, which encompassed many activities across the university, including student registration that she helped automate during her tenure. Patricia had a passion for working with and helping students as well as her team.
Patricia was blessed with a long and loving life, and she will be greatly missed. Her faith and devotion to our Lord was an inspiration to not only her children and grandchildren, but to everyone who knew her. She was a long time parishioner of St. Raphael Catholic Church, and she was called to help mothers-to-be through her work with The Gabriel Project. She was forever grateful to members of her St. Raphael's Community who prayed for her, especially Mark Benitez, who brought her communion when she was no longer able to attend mass.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, and her loving husband, Thomas R. Mathews. She is survived by her sons, Thomas S. and his wife Laura, Terrance R., Patrick J., and his wife Adrienne, and their cherished children, Patenne, Schuyler, and Chance.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the St. Raphael Gabriel Project or charity of your choice.

My grandma was a beautiful woman, both inside and out. Her great sense of humor was always paired with a smile that softened her sweet eyes.

During our weekly dinners, she would speak about her loving parents and her wonderful late husband, speaking of my grandpa with such admiration, as if he were her greatest hero. Their love was a testament to the kind of devotion and partnership we all strive for, and through her words, she showed my siblings and I what a truly loving relationship looks like.

Above all, my grandma was a woman of deep faith. Her love for God and her family was the foundation of her life, guiding her every action with steadfastness. She was not only a source of warmth and wisdom but also an incredible role model, who exhibited unwavering love, faith, and devotion in all she did.

Though we will miss her so deeply, her legacy of unconditional love and true faith will forever live on within the Mathews family and all who were blessed to know her.
