Polly Virginia Williams was born on July 11, 1932, in Gainesville, Georgia, to the late Guy Mangum and Susie Anderson. Surrounded by the love of her family, she peacefully departed this life on April 19, 2025.
A faithful steward of her faith, Polly was a devoted member of both Gethsemane FBH Church and, in her later years, Trinity CME Church. Affectionately known as "Mother Williams," she served as a pillar of wisdom in her church community. She mentored others with grace, sang joyfully in the choir, and traveled to church conventions with great enthusiasm. Polly also served on the hospitality committee, often welcoming guest speakers into her home and delighting them with her beloved handmade biscuits. She
lived her faith openly-sharing the love of Christ through every smile, every word, and every act of kindness.
Above all, Polly was a dedicated and loving mother. After the untimely passing of her beloved husband, Luther Williams Jr., she exemplified resilience as she lovingly raised their four daughters. With what she often described as the help of the Holy Ghost, she nurtured each of her daughters with a unique bond and unwavering encouragement, helping them pursue their fullest potential. Polly also made a profound impact on the family of Dr. Robert and Lynn Marascalco, working closely with them and helping to shape the lives of their children-bonds that lasted a lifetime. Her legacy lives on in her infectious smile, her tell-it-like-it-is humor, her generous spirit, and the deep love she gave to all who knew her.
Polly was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Luther Williams, her daughter Linda Ann Montgomery, her son-in-law Elder Nathaniel Montgomery, her siblings Lucille and Ollis Williams Sr., Helen R. Maddox, Robert Mangrum, Guy Mangrum Jr., Eugene Mangrum, and her nephew Ollis Williams Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Her daughters, Chris Rogers (Micheal James) of Stone Mountain, GA; Susan (Ricky) Dukes of Oakwood, GA; and Deidra (Christopher Alan) Mays of Flowery Branch, GA. Her sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ann Williams and Mrs. Michelle (Lloyd) Williams. Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her bonus family: Dr. Robert J. and Lynn Marascalco, and their children Laura, Ashley, Amy and Robert. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and cherished friends.

April 24, 2025

I have ALWAYS had this very detailed memory of her hands. Her red ruby ring she wore every day. I can still hear her panty hose swish swish when she walks, and how she always picked the ends off her French Fries. I remember exactly how her car smelt, and how soft and comfy the blue fuzzy seats were. I remember her voice vividly, and the sounds she made when she was spooked. I loved her laugh. She had the best laugh.
