Raymond Edward Davenport, Sr., 85, of Harrisburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Carolyn's House in Harrisburg. Born on April 17, 1940, in Harrisburg, Raymond was the son of the late Charles Colbert and Marian Davenport. He was the devoted husband of the late Constance Davenport, with whom he shared 61 years of loving marriage.
He graduated from Harrisburg High School and went on to dedicate 35 years to the Harrisburg State Hospital, where he worked as a psychiatric aide. Raymond was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, serving his country with honor from 1956-1959.
Raymond found joy in life's simple and meaningful moments-spending time with his children and grandchildren, chatting with friends, listening to music, and even enjoying his regular grocery shopping trips. His warmth, humor, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves behind his son, Raymond Edward Davenport, Jr. (wife Kimberly); his daughters, Sherry Davenport, Tara Wright (husband Henry), Tonya Ingram, and Dawn Davenport; his 15 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren and friends. He was also preceded in death by his only brother, Charles Davenport.
A committal service with full military honors will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, 60 Indiantown Gap Road, Annville, PA 17003 at a date to be determined.
