Reynaldo A. Hernandez, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and decorated veteran, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025, in Richardson, Texas, at the venerable age of 100. Born on January 6, 1925, in San Antonio, Texas, to the late Felipe G. and Belen (Ramos) Hernandez, Reynaldo's life was characterized by devotion to his family, his country, and his community.
Reynaldo's legacy is marked by a love story that endured the test of time. Married for 75 years to his beloved wife, Benita A. Hernandez, he often said she was the cornerstone of his life. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including their children Lidia, Gerald, and Guadalupe Hernandez and his wife Marty. Although Reynaldo was predeceased by his son Reynaldo Hernandez Jr. and grandson Javier Hernandez, his memory lives on through his grandchildren Rachel, Veronica, and Michael Chapa, and Deanna and Celina Hernandez, all of whom he adored immensely.
After earning his Associate's Degree, Reynaldo embarked on a successful career as an engineer with Rockwell International. His strong work ethic and keen intellect were evident in the projects he undertook and the respect he garnered from his colleagues. However, Reynaldo's pride in his professional achievements paled in comparison to the pride he felt for his service to his country. A distinguished U.S. Army veteran, he served with honor and was decorated for his bravery. Reynaldo's commitment to his fellow servicemen and women continued long after his military service ended; he dedicated two years as the Commander of the VFW Garland Chapter, where he was instrumental in helping soldiers obtain the benefits they deserved.
Reynaldo and Benita made their home in Garland, Texas, for over four decades. During this time, he became a faithful member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, where he was known for his loving and thoughtful nature. His presence was a source of comfort and inspiration to many within the congregation.
Those who knew Reynaldo will remember him as a man of integrity and kindness. He was a rock to his family, providing unwavering support and unconditional love. His wisdom and guidance were the foundations upon which his children and grandchildren built their lives. Reynaldo's thoughtful approach to life's challenges was a testament to his strength of character.
Above all, Reynaldo's life was defined by the love he had for his wife and family. They were his first priority, his greatest joy, and his most cherished accomplishment. The values he instilled in his family-compassion, loyalty, and perseverance-will continue to guide them in the years to come.
Reynaldo will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. His memory will be treasured as a blessing, his stories will be recounted with smiles, and his influence will be felt for generations. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we take solace in the knowledge that his legacy of love and service will endure.
Reynaldo's life will be celebrated with a Funeral Mass at 12:30 pm on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Rest Haven Funeral Home Rowlett. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. The family will gather with friends at the funeral Home on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
