Roger Paul McKenzie, aged 70, passed away peacefully in the early morning of June 23, 2025, in Tarpon Springs, FL. Born on January 31, 1955, in Chicago, Il, Roger's life was marked by his kindness, intelligence and dedication to his family.
Roger's early years were spent in Racine, Wisconsin with parents William and Mervonne McKenzie and his sister Ellyn McKenzie. It is here that he began to pursue his lifelong interests in golf and music, as well as a love for learning. His academic journey led him to the University of Wisconsin, where he earned a degree in Communications.
He went on to develop an interest in technology. He was an early adopter of many new technologies including the first video game consoles, hand-held camcorders and home personal computers. He was an amateur photographer and videographer of his family and friends. Roger worked for the Pinellas County Government for 30 years as a systems analyst and computer programmer. His analytical mind and intelligence were hallmarks of his character.
Roger was a loving father to his two daughters, Rachel and Leanna McKenzie. They were his source of greatest pride. He never spared the opportunity to tell his daughters that he loved them. He was always ready to make them laugh with a silly pun and ensured they had everything they needed. He worked to instill Christian values in them through regular attendance at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Largo, FL. His gentle spirit and generous heart were evident to all who knew him.
As we bid farewell to Roger Paul McKenzie, we take solace in the knowledge that his journey was marked by kindness, generosity and love. We are grateful to have known him, and he will not be forgotten
Roger is survived by his children Rachel and Leanna; his sister, Ellyn; his grandchildren, Lilliana, Ellia and Gabriel; and many loving cousins and friends. He is predeceased by his parents.
