Rufus Palacios, Jr., age 64, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at his residence surrounded by family.
A prayer service will be held 6:30 P.M., Sunday, January 26, 2025 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 P.M., recited by Deacon David Mendez.
Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday, January 27, 2025 at Holy Spirit Catholic Parish with Father Nilo Nalugon officiating.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at Restland Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243 in Whispering Waters Area 3 with Monsignor Larry Prichard officiating. All arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Rufus was born on July 18, 1960 in Sweetwater, Texas, to Refugio (Rufus) T. Palacios, Sr. and Concepcion (Connie) (Quirino) Palacios. He married Ramona Sepulveda on August 1, 1992 in Sweetwater, Texas. He graduated from Abilene High School and received his Associate Degree from TSTC College in Waco, Texas. He worked as a tool designer for Texas Instruments for many years. He also was a Peace Officer for Grand Prairie Police Department in Grand Prairie, Texas. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Parish.
Rufus was a loving husband, wonderful father, grandfather, brother and friend. He loved to go fishing, hiking, camping and enjoyed going to car shows and car races. He took pride in working with his hands. He built his own home with help from his father and wife Ramona. In his early years, he had a passion for travel and fitness. This would take him to places such as Germany, Italy, Austria and to Denmark where he would marry his wife, Ramona.
As the years went on, Rufus found happiness in spending time with his wife, Ramona, children; Anthony, Elizabeth, Victoria and Kathryn, grandchildren; Nathaniel, Aaliyah, and Evelyn. Although he will be missed, his memories will live on through the countless friends and family he had these 64 years on earth.
He is survived by his wife, Ramona Palacios of Sweetwater; children, Anthony Palacios, Elizabeth Palacios, Victoria Palacios and Kathryn Palacios; grandchildren, Nathaniel Palacios, Aaliyah Palacios, and Evelyn Palacios; siblings, Leandro Palacios, Veronica Rodriquez, Ermelinda Quesada, Anacleto Palacios, Severita Rosales, Martin Palacios, and Rita Palacios, and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Connie and Rufus Palacios, Sr., and two sisters, Maria Palacios and Mechtilde Garcia.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Palacios, Nathaniel Palacios, Anacleto Palacios, Martin Palacios, Martin Rodriquez, Efrain Rodriquez, Raul Palacios, and Gregory Rodriquez.
Honorary pallbearers will be Leandro Palacios and Kaleb Quesada.
