Obituary published on Legacy.com by Twiford Funeral Homes - Elizabeth City on Feb. 1, 2025.
Samuel "Sandy" Kader Davis, 73, of Camden, NC, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025 with his girls by his side. A devoted Daddy, Granddaddy, educator, coach, passionate traveler, dedicated friend, and the best "Sandy Claus" ever. He left an indelible mark on the lives of those he touched.
Born on June 17, 1951, in Edenton, NC, Sandy spent his life inspiring young students and athletes as a teacher and enthusiastic coach. He began his career in Hope Mills, NC, where he taught, coached, and assisted with the Special Olympics. He continued these positions at Northeastern High School in
Elizabeth City, NC, where he impacted many lives in the community. His compassion and kind heart shined throughout every position he held. He left teaching for a few years to take a full-time position as the Eastern Field Director with the Special Olympics. Sandy loved helping others and making positive changes. He eventually returned to education teaching in Chowan and Mecklenburg counties. With a desire to travel, he took an Assistant Principal position at the Modern American School in Amman, Jordan in 2006 which began a new chapter filled with curiosity and wonder while traveling the world.
Despite all his travels, North Carolina was always home and one of his favorite places was the Outer Banks. Throughout his life, Sandy loved fishing, enjoyed gardening, all sports, and over-indulging in all things chocolate. He loved assisting with the youth group and puppet ministry at Cann Memorial Presbyterian Church and later attended Sawyers Creek Baptist Church.
Most importantly, Sandy cherished his family and friends. His proudest accomplishment was the title of Daddy and Granddaddy. While his girls were growing up, he never missed a game or event and continued that tradition by trying his best to attend all his grandchildren's various activities no matter where he was. Sandy was a friend to all he met and no one was ever a stranger. He is survived by his daughters, Ashley Williams of South Mills, NC (son-in-law Chad), and Lesley Davis of Virginia Beach; his two cherished grandchildren, Jackson and Ellie Williams; sister-in-law, Gail Costello Davis; and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Kader Davis and Sadie Mae Mizzelle Leary Davis; his brother, William Ike "Ikey" Davis; and his sisters, Iris Jean Dail, Hazel Severance, and Maizel Dunlow.
The family would like to thank the physicians and staff of Albemarle Nephrology Associates as well as the kind and compassionate staff of Davita of Elizabeth City. The care you provided our father the last 15 months, even when he repeatedly was ready to "get outta there," allowed us to share a lot more love and memories. Thank you for your patience.
We would also like to send a special shoutout to the staff and residents of Needham Adult Care Home. There are no words to express the gratitude and love we have received from you all! Thank you for showing our father the dignity and grace everyone deserves on the last journey of their life. You all truly became an extension of our family, and we will never forget your kindness and love.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2025, at Sawyers Creek Baptist Church, 241 Sawyers Creek Road, Camden, NC 27921, with the Rev. Kevin Buzzard officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Special Olympics of Eastern North Carolina or the Children in Action ministry at Sawyers Creek Baptist Church.
Though he is no longer with us, Sandy's legacy of kindness, adventure, and dedication to others will live on. His life was a well-traveled journey. Good Job, Daddy...We Love You!
