Sarah Elizabeth Greene Speer
John 14:1-3
There are many rooms in my father's house. I would not tell you this if it were not true. I am going there to prepare a place for you. After I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me so that you will be where I am.
Sarah Elizabeth Greene Speer passed away peacefully at home and joined her beloved husband Ralph in heaven on May 27, 2025, at the age of 92.
Sarah was born on October 26, 1932, to Eugene Franklin Green and Anice Erskine Greene of Cometa, Texas. She grew up in Cometa and attended school in Carrizo Springs and Crystal City. She was a very talented artist who loved drawing pictures of anything that captured her attention.
She married the love of her life, Ralph Speer, on October 2, 1952. They moved to Washington State while Ralph served in the Army and briefly lived in Crystal City. They moved back to the ranch at Cometa to help her mom run the ranch when her dad passed away.
They raised four children, Suzy, Jerry, Paula, and Bobby, and loved having any kids come to the ranch. They hosted trail rides, many rodeo-related activities, and the annual Cometa 4th of July party.
They were affectionately known as Nana and Pop. There were always activities where the kids stayed overnight, whether inside or sleeping outside in the yard in bed rolls. She loved it when her kids brought home friends. She said Bobby and Jerry brought friends home, and they never left. Sarah loved having a house full of people at all times. When the grandkids spent the night, they pulled out the big pillows, called it their nest, and slept beside Nana and Pop's bed. She said she wanted to place a cereal box on the table when she was ready to go to bed. She loved kids and loved to entertain them any way she could, especially in her garden or yard. She loved to load up the kids on the golf cart and drive around the ranch. She always wanted her house full of visitors and loved to sit on her porch and talk. Sarah loved working in her yard, growing flowers, and living in the country.
Sarah was the Winter Garden Cable Office manager until she and Ralph opened the R and S Feed Store in Crystal City. They enjoyed visitors stopping by to drink a cup of coffee and long visits.
Sarah was raised in the First Baptist Church of Crystal City, where her parents were members. Later in life, she was the church secretary, and Ralph was a deacon. She was so proud of Bobby being licenced as a preacher by First Baptist Church of Crystal City. After the church was given to Templo Emanuel, Sarah moved her letter to the First Baptist Church of Carrizo Springs. She loved going to church, helping work on the kitchen committee, and attending Amazing Greys luncheons.
Viewing will be held from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, and a Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm, Sunday, June 1, 2025 at the Templo Emanuel in Crystal City, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Carrizo Springs Youth Summer Camp fund in Sarah's memory.
Sarah is preceded in death by her loving husband, Ralph Speer, parents Eugene and Anice Greene, brother Eugene Greene Jr., sister Louise Grabbs, daughters Suzy Masar, Pamela Speer, and Sandra Speer, son Jerry Speer, and grandsons Austin and Aaron Speer.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
