Charlie Davis Dean, Jr., son of the late Charlie Davis Dean, Sr. and Girtrue (Jordan) Dean, was born February 23, 1946, in Tallulah, Louisiana.
As a small boy, Charlie and his family moved to Arkansas where he grew up and graduated from high school. Shortly after graduation, Charlie moved to Illinois and entered the United States Army.
Charlie was proud of his military career and retired after 21 ½ years of faithful service. For his faithful service, he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and earned several awards and commendations; some of which included Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Medal Unit Citation with 30 Device, Vietnam Service Medal w/4 Bronze Service Stars, Army Commendation Medal w/2 Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal – 6th Award, Non Commissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon – 2D Level, and Expert Qualification Badge M16. During his time in the military, Charlie served four tours in Vietnam. He transferred to Fort Leonard Wood in 1983, retired in 1986, and decided to remain in the area after his retirement.
After retiring from the military, Charlie continued serving his country as a civil service employee on Fort Leonard Wood in the transportation department. He served for 23 years before retiring around 2000.
Charlie met the love of his life, Sheila Mae Carr. They were united in marriage on June 5, 1967, in Dumas, Arkansas and shared over 47 years of marriage together before she preceded him in death on September 13, 2014.
One of the reasons Charlie and the family decided to remain in the area was because of his love of the outdoors. In his spare time, you could find him either hunting, fishing, or going camping.
Charlie loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them, especially with the grandchildren.
Charlie passed away Sunday, March 16, 2025, in his home in Dixon, Missouri having attained the age of 79 years. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents and wife, Charlie was preceded in death by six siblings: Mary Louise, Genevia Lee, Carlene, Olivia, Martha, and an infant brother.
Charlie leaves to cherish his memory, his four children: Leeann Myers (Chris) of St. Robert, MO, Charlie Davis Dean III (Marcy) of Dixon, MO, Tina Wivell (Kenny) of Port Charlotte, MO, and Leigh Dean (Alina) of St. Robert, MO; eighteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; one brother: Bruce Dean of Beebe, AR; one sister: Judy Glover of Blytheville, AR; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Even though he is gone from our sight, Charlie's love for his country and family will live on in our hearts forever.
Services were held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2025 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Chaplain (CPT) Macdiel A. Carranza officiating. The songs "Daddy's Hands" by Holly Dunn, "Go Rest High on that Mountain" by Vince Gill, and "The Old Rugged Cross" by Alabama were played. Serving as escorts were Leigh Dean, Shawn Myers, Tommy Myers, Seth Davis, Steven Crabtree, and Nicholas Crabtree. Burial with military honors followed in the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery of Waynesville with military hoonors being provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Services were under the care and direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of SSG (Ret) Charlie Davis Dean, Jr. and may be left at Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
