To know Stanley Miller, you must have had a single thing in common.FOOTBALL! He likely loved the game as much as life itself. His entire being revolved around a pig skin ball, helmets, pads and uniforms! There wasn't much he didn't know about the game. Coach Miller, or Stan, as his closest friends and family knew him, dedicated his entire life to playing, learning, coaching and watching his favorite players and teams. His heart was filled with joy when he was on the field with young men and the pride portrayed for each player was immeasurable. Coaching football came with the extra job of teaching Social Studies and Stanley excelled at that as well. His students meant the world to him. He proudly took a personal interest in them. They loved him. Stan was sure to be more than just the ordinary educator. He would talk to them, teach them, coach them and mentor them. His existence was for the game and the kids and although he didn't have children of his own, he accepted his students and players as family.
Stanley grew up in Nacogdoches and upon graduation, he went on to complete his master's degree in education. He then coached for a time at Nacogdoches ISD, Troup ISD and San Augustine ISD and eventually landed at Marshall ISD where he spent almost 20 years. His time at Marshall came with the best friends a man could have. He and Bill Harper and his wife Bobbie and Shirley Jones were practically inseparable. They would play jokes on each other, make fun of each other and come together to work. When Coach Harper took a job at Nacogdoches in the early 90's, he brought Stan back home with him, where he remained until his retirement in 2010. Upon retirement, Stan was able to spend time with his family. He and his brother Hubert made many memories as the years went by. Stan treated his brother's children and grandchildren like they were his own and made sure they knew how special they were to him.
Stan enjoyed hunting and fishing but his most loyal companions were his little dogs. He also loved to eat, especially when the menu included a good hamburger, onion rings and a beer! He and Hubert spent many days at their favorite places to dine, which happened to be Douglass Café and Kinfolks Restaurant. When they were not out to eat, they were certainly cooking outside at home. Stan was quite the chef, and his way was always best!
Stan is survived by his closest nieces and nephews, Steven Molanders and wife Carla, Brian Molanders, Kelly Molanders, Leah Molanders and Hubert Molanders, Jr. and wife, Lynn as well as numerous others. He also leaves behind his dearest friends, Bill and Bobbie Harper and Shirley Jones as well as many students that made a great impression on his life.
Serving as pallbearers will be George O'Brian, Lee Thomas, James Page, Ty Thomas, Nick Page and Zack Hopson.
