Sue Bissell Roberts

Sue Bissell Roberts of Vero Beach, FL, and Milford, CT, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family on February 8, 2025, at the age of 87. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend whose kindness and selflessness touched everyone who knew her. Born on August 17, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Helen Voigt and Ernest Voigt of NYC. Raised in Manhasset, Long Island, Sue carried a deep love for family throughout her life.
Sue was known to her family as "Nanno," a name associated with her deep and unwavering love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband and best friend, Anthony (Tony) Roberts; her daughters, Kim Stapleton and Terri Finch; and her beloved daughter, Jen Bernhard, who passed before her in 2024. She leaves behind grandchildren Brianna Quieros (Jason), Leah Riccio-Finch (Samantha), Caitlin Carroll (Tommy), Kevin Stapleton, and Olivia (Liv) Bernhard, as well as great-grandchildren Gwen, Wesley, and Millie Quieros. She also leaves her cherished niece Melissa Mason Moser (Daniel); nephews Rick Voigt (Mary) Michael Voigt ( Vilma) and Christopher Voigt ( Kim); Her blended family also brought her great joy, including Whitney Roberts and her children Freddie, Douglas, and Logan Hoffmann, along with Whitney's grandchildren Steele Douglas and Walker Thomas Hoffmann; Kimball Steele Bocklet (CJ) and their children Charles and Graham Bocklet; and Elizabeth Daly (Raymond) and their children Mallory, Margaret, and Grace Daly.
Nanno Sue had an enormous presence-one of strength, beauty, and dignity. She carried herself with grace and quiet confidence, yet she never missed a thing. She listened intently, asked questions with sincerity, and remembered every birthday. Her thoughtful Christmas cards were more than just greetings-they were reflections of her love and attention to detail, little reminders that she was always thinking of you and always had your back.
She approached life with optimism, energy, and an infectious love for the simple joys-her sea glass collection, a little bite of chocolate to satisfy her sweet tooth, and, most of all, time spent with loved ones. She was our source of strength and joy, and though we miss her deeply, the love and traditions she built will carry on.
Sue was the heart of our family, the one who brought us together. Her Martha's Company Casserole was more than just a meal-it was a tradition, a symbol of love and togetherness. And though she is no longer with us, those traditions will carry on, just as her love will remain in our hearts.
Sue touched countless lives in her work as a counselor in recovery, offering support, wisdom, and hope to those in need. She had a rare gift for listening intently, giving gentle advice, and making everyone feel valued.
In recent years, Sue found some of her happiest moments. Though we grieve her loss, we find comfort knowing she is with her daughter Jen again. Sue's spirit lives on in the wisdom she shared, the love she gave, and the countless lives she touched
