Dateline: Downers Grove, IL Thomas P. Smith, 77, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, surrounded by love at his daughter's home in Glenville, NY. Born on February 14, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois, Thomas was the son of the late Thomas and Marie (Lindemann) Smith. Thomas's academic journey saw him graduate from Brother Rice High School in 1966 and later from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1971. His passion for knowledge led to a successful career as a long-time Electrical Engineer, where he was highly regarded by his peers.
An avid athlete in his youth, Thomas excelled in track, basketball, and football. His love for music was evident through his self-taught guitar skills, and he found joy in playing with his band, the Roof Raisers.
Those who knew Thomas would describe him as loving, kind, and friendly. Thomas P. Smith's legacy of love and kindness will continue to live on through his family and the many lives he touched. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Thomas is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Deborah (Helms) Smith, his daughter Kristen Smith, his cherished grandson Donovan Smith, and his sisters Catherine Hartney and Marjorie Pietkiewicz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Marie (Lindemann) Smith, and his sister Eileen Violante. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 10 am at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Road, Glenville.
