Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tucker, Yocum, & Wilson Funeral Home on Apr. 9, 2025.
Timothy Fletcher Jones, born February 16th, 1953 was called home, peacefully, to his Lord and Savior on April 5th, 2025. Tim was born in Walnut, Mississippi to the Reverend Ralph and Jacqueline Jones. Shortly thereafter the family relocated to Florida, where Tim was raised, and his father pastored several local United Methodist churches (UMC). Tim graduated from Florida Southern College prior to attending Emory University, School of Theology, where he earned his Master's of Divinity degree. After his ordination into the Florida United Methodist Conference, he served several local churches in Tampa and Tallahassee. In 1987, Tim was appointed Campus Minister, UMC, on the Florida State University campus, where he served 16 years bringing the good news of Jesus Christ to hundreds of students. It was at this time he fully realized his calling to work with college-aged students and young adults.
Tim was overjoyed at the birth of his son, Brian, and couldn't wait to play baseball with him. He would eventually go on to coach Brian's Little League Team. Highlights for Tim were family trips, one of which was to "Cooperstown" and "Ground Zero", NYC. During the trip to NYC, Tim wore his New York Yankees baseball cap while Brian wore his Red Sox baseball cap. They both enjoyed the looks and fun comments! In later years, Tim enjoyed trips to major league baseball games across the country with his son, Brian, his brother Steve, and nephew Matthew. His love for traveling with those he loved had its origins in the many camping trips with his mom, dad, brother and sisters growing up.
In 2003, Tim and family relocated to Kentucky where he served on the Pastoral Staff at Mosaic UMC, with a focus on college-age students, and related ministries. Tim, known as PT (Pastor Tim), eventually started "Campus Thirst", an online ministry focused on praying for college students and campus revival while, simultaneously, speaking at conferences and other gatherings.
Over the past several years, Tim made
Georgetown, KY his home and pastored "Remnant Church" in Versailles, KY while simultaneously serving as an adjunct professor with Indiana Wesleyan University and McKendree College. Furthermore, Tim was a natural writer, so it is no surprise that he authored two books, Extreme Sheep (2018), and The Anatomy of Doubt (2023), sharing his passion for the power of prayer, the power of 'listening prayer', and the freedom of forgiveness found in forming a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Due to his commitment to the Lord, and his unrelenting perseverance in following his call, Tim's reach to pray and serve others in the name of Christ extended locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. He had a tremendous response with the countless people he touched and had the honor of blessing and seeing their lives changed through Christ.
Befitting with Tim's sense of humor, he is referred to as "stash" - giving credit to his one-of-a-kind and unmistakable white, thick mustache. Further, Tim had a propensity to favor and wear plaid shirts; so, naturally, one could find rows and rows of students donning plaid shirts at countless gatherings.
Tim's father, Rev. Ralph Jones pre-deceased him. Those who will share in his memory are his mother, Jacqueline Jones Gundersen, son Brian Thomas Jones (Bethany), brother Steve Jones (Janice), sisters, Melinda Montgomery (John), and Daurie Jones (Joey), nephew Matthew, nieces Lauren (Ian), Shannon (Zach), and Stephanie, and three great-nieces Lily, Lucy, and Nora. Additionally, there is no mistaking, Tim will be missed by peers, students, young adults, all of whom were Tim's " family in Christ ". Tim would be honored that anyone reading this testimony would seek further into a relationship with Jesus Christ. Tim, rest in peace knowing you have lived out your calling, all to God's glory.
A funeral service will be conducted from 11:00am-12:00pm on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at the Church of the Savior, 1301 Brannon Road, Nicholasville, KY 40356. Friends and family are encouraged to leave messages of condolences and share memories here on Tim's tribute wall.
