Our beloved, Velma Elaine Payne Howell, passed away, Thursday, May 22, 2025 in Denton, Texas with her family by her side. Elaine was born to parents, Bert and Opal Fern Tice Payne, September 7, 1941, in McCamey, Texas. She married Ralph Doxsee Howell, March 23, 1957, in Rankin, Texas and they are the proud parents of Terri, Misti, Ralph and David.
She attended Odessa College of Business and was also a graduate of Hazeldon Counseling. Her love of obtaining knowledge and wisdom followed her as Elaine served in various volunteer positions in her children's public schools and scouting programs. She participated as officer in The Petroleum Wives Clubs in England, Spain, Scotland and the United Arab Emirates and was active in her local church, Denton Bible Church and Bible Study Fellowship. Her favored volunteer position was many years of serving as the Director of the Junior High Department at Monahans Baptist Church. Her adventurous personality allowed her to enjoy many experiences including and not limited to bull riding in Spain, hiking the Himalayas and parasailing in Mexico. It was Elaine's love of family, generous spirit and love for her Lord and Savior that was most evident to those around her. She will be missed immensely.
A funeral service honoring Elaine will be held Thursday, 29, 2025 at the Slay Memorial Chapel in Aubrey, Texas at 10:00 AM with the burial to follow at Slay Bloomfield Jones Cemetery.
Elaine is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ralph; daughter, Misti Reneé; sons, Ralph Darrel and David Michael; four grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; sister, Wilma Faye Adams.
She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter Terri Elaine; brothers, Richard Ray Payne and Robert Lee Payne and her sister, Roberta Jean Payne; and one grandchild.
