William E. "Bill" Lyons, 82, of Bonita Springs, FL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, after a brief illness. Born on October 10, 1942, in New Haven, CT, he was the beloved only child of the late William E. and Mary (née Walsh) Lyons.
Bill grew up in New Haven, CT, and graduated from Notre Dame High School in West Haven. He attended the Connecticut School of Electronics in New Haven, where he honed the skills that would shape his lifelong career. Bill dedicated 33 years to the Southern New England Telephone Company, eventually retiring as manager of the State of CT Telecommunication Network.
Bill and his beloved wife, Elaine were married for nearly 57 years. They started their family in Oxford, CT and eventually relocated to Branford, CT where they enjoyed their life on the Long Island Sound. In the 1990s, Bill and Elaine retired to Bonita Springs, FL. Bill was an active member of Spanish Wells Country Club where his commitment was evident in the numerous committees on which he served. Whether helping a neighbor with a project or volunteering in his community Bill could always be counted on to step in and lend a hand.
Bill will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine M. Lyons of Bonita Springs, FL; his two daughters, Maria L. Barnikow (Brian) of Madison, CT, and Elizabeth K. Knickerbocker (James Massella) of Guilford, CT; and his cherished grandchildren, Rebecca, Matthew, Madelyn, and Ryan.
A celebration of life will be held later this year, with details to be announced at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that any donations be made in Bill's memory to a charity of your choice.
Bill leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to those he held dear. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
