He was born to Carl and Nyota Smith in Normal, Ill., on June 25, 1959. Robert graduated from Bloomington High School in 1977.

Robert began working at Monical's Pizza in 1979. He held various positions, at different stores and cities, working his way up to a management position. He almost did not see his thirtieth birthday because of a tragedy at Danville, Ill. By the grace of God and his healing touch, along with a medical staff and prayers from family, friends, and people he didn't even know. He resumed work at the Bloomington store, where his career of over forty-five years ended on his birthday.

Robert loved the Lord and his family with all his heart. He loved sending meaningful and tear-jerking cards and gifts to his family and friends. He also enjoyed music, reading, golf, sports and the Cardinals.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl Smith and Nyota (Clevenger) Smith; and his sister, Lorraine Byron. Robert is survived by his siblings, Kathryn "Eloise" Batchelder, Littleton, Col.; and Delores (John) Helmers, Saybrook, Ill. Also surviving are eight nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

He will be deeply missed by all his family and friends who knew and loved him.
