Norma "Sue" Thompson Smith, 88, of Paragould, died Saturday, July 5, 2025, at her residence.
A resident of Paragould since 1959, she was born in Pocahontas on Oct. 8, 1936. She was a homemaker and had formerly worked at Belk's, Emerson Electric, Ely & Walker Shirt Factory, department manager for Walmart, and retired after 15 years as manager/cook for Oak Grove Elementary School. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was an active member of the Seventh and Mueller Church of Christ where she taught children's classes, vacation Bible school, ladies' Bible class, and has been involved with the K.I.C.K. program since its beginning. She cooked for Crowley's Ridge Youth Camp and was a volunteer for Children's Home Homecoming.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Joe C. "Curt" Smith; one daughter, Danita Smith, in July of 1974; her parents, Dewey and Christina Thompson; her stepmother, Vera Thompson; and one sister, Alta Waymon.
Survivors include two sons, Darrell Smith (Debbie) of Paragould and Danny Smith of the home; four daughters, Darla Smith of Paragould, Dana Wilson (Eiland) of Dixie, Deanna Hudson (Randy) of Paragould, and Daronda Vick (Jeff) of Paragould. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Jennifer Smith Garner (Stacy), Jeffrey Smith (Amy), Jeremy Rowland (Karey), Barkley Rowland (Natalie), Ashlyn Apple (Alex Cole), Kasey Reddick, and Breanne Reddick Gardner; two step-grandchildren, Emma Hudson (Sarah Click) and Tyler Hudson (Courtney); 13 great-grandchildren, Nate Clayton, Trey Garner (Katie), Logan Garner (Makayla), Madi and Lexi Smith, Jarrett Rowland, Rowdy and Isla Rowland, Emilie and Elliot Gardner, and Kora, Ruxin, and Porter Hudson; four great-great-grandchildren, Maddox and Gracie Garner and Kinley and Lily Garner. She is survived by one brother, Dewrell Thompson (Oneta) of Pocahontas; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Services will be conducted Wednesday, July 9, at 10 a.m. at the Seventh and Mueller Church of Christ with Larry McFadden and Art Smith officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy Arnold, David Summitt, Gary Cupp, Floyd Landrum, Delaine Landrum and Luke Landrum.
Visitation will be today, July 8, from 6-8 p.m. at Heath Funeral Home.
