Desormeaux, Catherine A.
SCHENECTADY -
Catherine A. Desormeaux (Lacourse), 88, of Schenectady, N.Y., passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025.
Born on February 8, 1937, in Pawtucket, R.I., Catherine was raised in South Attleboro, Mass., and graduated from Saint Cecilia School. She later earned her LPN nursing degree in Schenectady, N.Y., launching a compassionate career in healthcare. Catherine served patients at Glenridge Hospital and Glendale Nursing Home from which she retired after years of dedicated service.
Catherine was married to the love of her life, George A. Desormeaux for 47 years until his passing in 2004. Together they shared a love of travel, making cherished memories in Cabo, Mexico and the scenic landscapes of New Hampshire.
She was predeceased by her husband, George; her parents, Theodore and Rose Anna Lacourse (Papineau); her sisters, Rachel Chaput and Marthe Lacourse; and her beloved cat, Horace Vandergelder.
Catherine is survived by her three sons, David A. Desormeaux (Marna Desormeaux), Michael A. Desormeaux (fiancée Denise Markle) and Neil L. Desormeaux (Krista Desormeaux). She also leaves behind her beloved great-grandchildren, Adrian, Jensen, and Jack Cooley, Guthrie and Pollyanne King.
Known as the matriarch of her family, Catherine was full of life and fiercely independent - a tough New Englander with an open heart. She was an avid storyteller, a lover of military history and a passionate collector of antiques. Catherine's generosity touched all who knew her.
In her retirement, Catherine remained deeply involved in her community. She volunteered as a Medical Reviewer for New York State's Surrogate Decision Making Committee (SDMC) Program through 2022 and served as a poll worker for the Schenectady County Board of Elections. She was also a proud member of the local Red Hat Society. A devout Roman Catholic, Catherine was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception.
