Jessica L. Cawvey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2005.
Everything Jessica L. Cawvey did was for her 6-year-old bundle of joy, Sierra. Cawvey, who gave birth at 15, earned an associate''s degree in accounting at a community college and was pursuing a bachelor''s at Illinois State University _ all to get a job that would allow her to provide for her daughter. To fund her dreams, she joined the Army. "I remember her saying the hardest part would be leaving her daughter," said Doug Dowell, her sociology professor at Illinois State. Cawvey, 21, of Normal, Ill., died Oct. 6 in Fallujah when a bomb detonated near her convoy vehicle. She was based in Paris, Ill. Cawvey graduated from high school in 2001. "She was a great young lady," said principal Del Ryan. "A very intelligent girl, very responsible, hardworking." Her mother, Sandra, said Jessica was apprehensive when she knew she was heading to Iraq. "She didn''t want to be there," she said. "She was trying to get along and raise her daughter. But she knew it was her duty."

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Cawvey Family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to troops in Afghanistan this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Jessica L. Cawvey US Army Specialist. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

To the Cawvey Family,

I am a graduate of Illinois State University. I read the Alumni Magazine from cover to cover when I receive the publication. ISU was founded in 1857 and when the Civil War broke out four years later, students left to go fight and have in every war since. Sgt. Cawvey and four others from ISU have made the ultimate sacrifice in the Iraq/Afghan War. I am especially proud of Sgt. Cawvey who was trying to better herself and make things easier for her and her daughter. I was shocked when I saw her daughter's photo on the Internet - having to grow up without her mother. I know that she is getting good care and after the war is over she should receive government benefits. The rest of the soldiers from ISU (family members) should receive the same.

God Bless Everyone who has lost a son or daughter in the war.

Tomarrow, Aug 21, 2010, I have the honor of walking in her name in the "Run for the Fallen" in Charleston, IL. I will always keep her in my heart and know that I do this to honor her, but know that it truly is a disservice as this is such a small thing for someone who gave all. Please know that I am so grateful to Jessica for what she has done for me and hope that her family can understand that she is not forgotten. God Bless our troops and thank you, Jessica.

I happened upon this site and read Jessica's story. I am deeply touched by her sacrifice and strong commitment to her daughter. She put her life in harm's way to help save others. The fact that her daughter will not have her mother in her life, is tragic. I am a retired teacher and although I was not Jessica's teacher, I taught many young people like Jessica who joined the service for a better opportunity. May God bless those who loved Jessica. I am saying a prayer for God to put his loving arms around her daughter. Jessica, I wish I had known you.

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear family of Sgt. Jessica L. Cawvey,

We want to say thank you. We understand that no words can be adequate for your sorrow. We certainly do not want to intrude upon your privacy. As Americans we want you to know that we deeply appreciate the ultimate sacrifice your loved one has made for all of us. We also would like for you to be aware that with this letter comes our special concern and prayers for you. We are all safer because young men and women who love their country, and know the value of a free nation, are willing to put themselves in harms way, and lay down their lives to keep this nation free and safe for all of us.
Your sacrifice is also very great. We know that we can give little comfort; however, the knowledge that your loved one did not die in vain, but died in the service of our country, gives each of us a noble example of the value of life, and the responsibility of freedom. We hope this will bring pride and comfort to you.
We at Gethsemane Church believe that there is purpose to life. We send this letter with our deepest appreciation for the greatest of sacrifices, you and your loved one have given to this country. We know it is not enough, but please allow us to assure you that your loved one is not forgotten.

Very Sincerely

Frank G. Noyes

It was my great priviledge this weekend at the 10th anniversary of the Women in Military Service for America Memorial to honor Sgt. Jessica L. Cawvey during the Service of Remembrance after our Candlelight March from the Lincoln Memorial. I announced her name and placed rose petals in the reflection pool at the Women's Memorial in her memory to honor her sacrifice for our country. I served during Desert Storm when my Naval Reserve Unit was called up. At the time I did not have any children but as a mother of two young daughters now, I can only imagine the strength it took for Jessica to serve in Iraq while having to leave her precious daughter and family. I can think of no greater sacrifice than to give your life for your country. To Jessica's daughter and family my thoughts and prayers will always be with you. God speed.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend (KIA on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!
