Jordan D. Winkler Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2005.
High school teacher Paul Todd said he saw the makings of a Marine almost as soon as he met Jordan D. Winkler. "He led quite well, and people followed him," Todd said. "He thought well on his feet and was a good organizer." Winkler, 19, of Tulsa, Okla., died Nov. 26 died while stationed at a hospital in Fallujah. He was based at Camp Pendleton, Calif. Winkler, a student in Todd's 20th-century wars class, felt comfortable opening up and visited with him several times after Winkler graduated in 2003 to follow in his footsteps in the 1st Marine Division. Mindy McCreary knew him from his time on the wrestling team, where he won the most improved award for 2003. She said Winkler was never brash or arrogant. "He was quiet and really sweet," McCreary said. "He was very respectful." Todd said he was struck by Winkler's motivation for joining the Marines. He wasn't concerned about the compensation, the military hardware or even his day-to-day duties. "He was more intrigued about the humanistic side," Todd said. "He said he was going over there to help people out." He is survived by his parents, Steven and Lenora.

It´s has been 17 years now and it is still hard especially around Thanksgiving but on this day it´s the worse. I still see your face, your eyes. I still remember everything about that day.

To your mom and dad,
I was one of the medical personnel that responded that day. I´m sorry we couldn´t save him. It´s been weighting heavy in my heart since that day. My deepest condolences. I´m sorry it took me this long.

Respectfully,

Well Wink its been nearly 10 years now and I'm still around. I miss you and Levi the most. But like I'm sure we all promised ourselves, I have lived on holding tightly to the memories we all built out there. Gunny Coleman is doing alright that's about all I talk to these days from Fallujah. I know I'm writing this more for me than you bud. If you can believe it some girl actually agreed to marry me. We have two little ones. Its 3am right now and I still can't sleep man. I guess a part of me still is out there. I never got a chance to say Goodbye but I dont think I have to because until God sees fit to take this old beat up Devil Dog I wont have to because you are still here with me just like Angell. Well Marine tell Chesty to save me a beer and lucky strike. Semper Fi

Hey brother! We miss you terribly but know you are standing tall at the Pearly Gates waiting patiently for us to report in for duty. Knowing you had traveled the same roads that I traveled, you helped keep me strong during my stent in Fallujah just months after you passed. I remember our time on recruiter's assistance together... Man, we really tore it up and made some of the best memories before we parted ways to our next duty stations! I'm always thinking about you and can't wait till we meet again to catch up and reminess bout the old days. Love ya brother, Semper Fi!

The flag is flying in the sky
A daily reminder of who and why
We sit here remembering them today
These heroes that now lie in their grave.

While here on earth, the bravest ones
A soldier, a mother, a daughter, a son
The father's who went far off to war
To ensure our safety and so much more

To keep our children happy and free,
Someone must do this job, you see
So, today remember the soldiers who served,
Because this is one thing they truly deserve.

The loved one's that they have left behind,
The Gold Star mothers, like your and mine
We honor them proudly, every day
Our American Soldier...Proud and Brave
By Shannon Williams-Austill

I want to thank this soldier for their sacrifice.
And, I wish to extend my deepest regards to the loved ones they have left behind. Their service to our nation, has not gone unnoticed. They are our heroes, who paid the ultimate price for us, and that is something that every American needs to be reminded of and remember everyday.
The freedom we all have, we have because of brave young men and women who made a choice to defend and serve.
Today, let me remember your loved one with you.

With the passing of yet another Memorial Day weekend, I'm humbly reminded that our family is not the only Gold Star family in Oklahoma. I've set aside time today to reflect on the past and remember that your family has suffered the loss of their soldier. Thank you for this soldier's service and duty. As he will always be dearly missed because he payed the ultimate sacrifice. He gave his life to protect our country and our freedom.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Jordan, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

As I look at this very young man, so proudly wearing the uniform of a United States Marine, I can't help but wonder what he might have contributed to America had he not paid the ultimate price for serving his country. We'll never know now, but I feel certain he would have continued to do his country and his Corps proud. To his parents (and family and friends) who loved him, I can only hope that these long years have brought you some sense of peace and that you are able to enjoy the memories of your beloved son - his years on earth may have been few, but he lived them with honor. God bless you all. Rest in peace Marine - Semper Fi

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. WILSON (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

I am deeply sorry for your loss.

To the Family of Lance Cpl. Jordan D. Winkler:
If your child can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 as well and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for right now. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten . You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

To the family of Lance Cpl. Jordan D. Winkler my most sincere condolences.

Two years have passed and I can feel your pain. Having lost dear ones in the Vietnam war, I know that, although it does get easier, they are definitely never forgotten. I know that the good memories of your son, the laughter you shared and the many joys he brought to your lives are the things that you cling to.

My son, Spc. Robert Casais, Jr., is serving in Iraq and my heart hangs by a thread when I hear of casualties, but I know that if he were not to return, I find comfort in the promise of the resurrection found at John 5:28&29. I know that Jehovah will remember Jordan on that day and bring him back to you. Once again you will be able to embrace Jordan.

My prayers are with you.
