Donald MCEACHERN Obituary

MCEACHERN, Donald Lee
1922-2014

Surrounded by his family, Don McEachern, age 92, passed away peacefully in Ottawa, late Sunday, December 7, 2014. He is survived by his adoring wife, Lois and their three children and partners: Ian (Elaine Flowers), Margaret (Jim Stringer) and Kate (Richard Batty). Don is pre- deceased by his son, Murray. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Erin, Colin and Evan Stringer and Claire and Megan Batty. As a proud Canadian, Don served his country with distinction in the Pacific in the Second World War, returning to the University of Toronto to complete his engineering degree in 1948. He then joined Bell Canada where he spent 36 years contributing to Canada's leadership in telecommunications both at home and abroad. In his final assignment as Chief Engineer for a major Bell Canada International project, he played a vital role in building the telephone company for Saudi Arabia. In their retirement Don and Lois enjoyed friends, family, cottage life and travel. They recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Don was a man of quiet charm, always confident in his directions and decisions. This allowed him to lead with ease and enjoy the respect of family, friends and colleagues. He will be dearly missed. The family will receive friends at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Rd., Nepean (between Baseline Rd and Bayshore Dr.) on Wednesday, December 17th from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. with the funeral to follow at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Perley and Rideau Veterans' Health Centre Foundation, 1750 Russell Rd., Ottawa, ON, K1G 5Z6.
