Jean was a role model to so many authors and to those of us who worked in the "book industry" -- editors, designers, marketers ... Her joy and dedication always shone through to encourage others.

Jean Wilson, while an editor at UBC Press, read my book, Men & Women and Tools - Bridging the Divide, and decided it needed to be published. She presented it to UBC Press (my Alma Mater) and they rejected it. Unbeknownst to me, she sent it on to New Star Books, though I received the rejection letter. We met again at a Congress Book Fair, and when she heard that, she said, "Come with me!" and we marched around to the other side of the hall, stopping in front of a grizzled fellow with big smile that came out while greeting her. "Earl," she said, "this woman has a book that you want to publish!" And so my book came out from Fernwood Publishing, Canada's finest social justice press. Jean and I remained friends, joyful whenever the world threw us together in the same space. I was deeply saddened to read of her death. She was a brilliant and empathetic soul and gift to so many. I will be forever thankful to have known her and had her as my advocate!

Loved Jean´s vision, compassion, and courage. A fabulous comrade in scholarly publishing. Thinking of you Jane. May her journey continue with us all.

In any academic life we encounter many people, some leave a lasting impression; Jean belonged to the latter category. She was unfailingly kind, generous, thoughtful and supportive of individual authors and a robust interrogation of our past. She took, and shared, such pleasure in making fine books. I was heartbroken to learn of her death and the struggles of the past years. It is comforting to know that she was loved and cared for as she faced these health challenges. Jean was a beautiful human being. I am glad I knew her. My sincere condolences to her family and friends.
