MACAULAY, Phyllis A.
Widow of the late John A. MacAulay, C.C., died in Winnipeg on June 29, 1999 at age 93, after a long and happy life. She is survived by her two children; her daughter Carol Taylor of Palm Springs, California and Thornbury, England, and her husband Maurice and by her son J. Blair MacAulay of Oakville, Ontario, and his wife Libby. She is also survived by her brother Allan McPherson; by six grandchildren, Justin and Graeme Taylor and Alix, Robin, John and Lesley MacAulay and by five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband in 1978 and by her brothers, Charles and Jack McPherson and by her sisters, Helen Purves and Aileen Irvine. Phyllis sang professionally for many years and toured Canada during the 1930's and 1940's giving concert performances and had a weekly program on the CBC national radio network. Between 1958 and 1965, when her husband was Chairman of the International Red Cross in Geneva, she traveled extensively with him throughout the world. One of the highlights of this period was accompanying her husband to Oslo in 1963 where he accepted the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of the International Red Cross. Phyllis was awarded the Count Bernadotte Medal by the International Red Cross. She shared her husband's deep interest in art and was active in many cultural and community activities during her lifetime. There will be a private burial. A reception for family and friends, to celebrate her life, will be held on Tuesday, July 6 at the Manitoba Club in Winnipeg between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS of Winnipeg, 204-783-7211.
