Charles Bennett Obituary

BENNETT, Charles Arthur GONE FISHING FOR THE BIG ONE It is with great sadness we announce Chuck's passing on April 25, 2008 in Victoria, BC. He was born December 2, 1927 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Predeceased by parents Charles and Beatrice, he is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Dorothy (Dot); daughter Terry (Jim) Dunne and son Gordon Bennett; grandchildren Tassia, Corey, Jenna, and Dustin; sister Wynne and brothers Ray (Eileen), Art (Judy) and Gil (Marylou); daughter-in-law Debbie and close inlaws Barb and Ron (Jean), plus many cousins, nieces, nephews, and long time friends. Chuck worked as a rigger sailmaker at DND Dockyard from 1951 to 1983, retiring as the shop's charge hand. He was deeply involved in the Victoria bowling community for 50 years plus was a long time member of the James Bay Anglers Association. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing the local waters and also spent many hours puttering in his garden, yelling at the neighbourhood cats. He was a wonderful armchair coach to his grandchildren. "No More Mr. Nice Guy" Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Eric Shafonsky, Lise, and the attending RJH staff involved in Chuck's care. A celebration of Chuck's life will be held at Sands Funeral Chapel, 1803 Quadra Street, on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the B.C. Heart and Stroke Foundation, #107 1001 Cloverdale Ave., V8X 4C9, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Condolences may be offered at www.sandsfuneral.com . 463821

I will always remember Chuck (or Mr. Bennett, as he was known to my son, Alex) as a great neighbour, avid gardener and always had a wave and a smile. My thoughts are with you, Dot.

To Dot and Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you, I remember the first time I met Chuck, I was working next door, and he was puttering around in his garden, we had quite the conversation about couche grass and gardening. His love of gardening was evident in the way his yard looked. In the short time that I knew him, he kinda grew on me. He was book of knowledge when it came to gardening.
I believe that god moves people in and out of others lifes, and each makes his mark on the other.
You find you are made up of bits and pieces of all who ever touched your life, and you are more because of it, and you would be less if they had not touched your life.
Take care of yourselves, and each other at this most difficult time.

Just read about Chuck's passing and it was a big shock, he was such a great guy and were very proud to have Dot and Chuck on our bowling team for a number of years. We enjoyed being around him and he always had a smile for you. He will be sadly missed.
