I remember one phone call to David where there was quite a commotion in the background. Dave turned away from the phone and yelled "Lloyd, calm down or you'll have to leave!" Returning to me he explained, "That Lloyd Bentsen, so pissed about losing, he drinks too much and wants to fight everyone." If that tells you anything it's that Dave came out of nowhere with unforgetable, fantastic gems. Ten years later and I'm still laughing.

Many are the days that I still can't believe you are gone, and then Laura too. So many people have intense closeness for a short period which life interrupts and we move into the next chapter, but Dave left me with lines and attitudes that refresh me even today. That's an impression! Somehow I always thought he would survive Keith Richards and be talking about it when we met. Miss the ability to pick up the phone and reconnect. RIP

As we come up to the holiday season, I am remembering David and writing belatedly to send my condolences to Laura. We worked together at Scott's on Lombard, before you both 'graduated' to the Embarcadero. What I remember most about David was his mischievous grin and his debonair manner. Such a loss, and my thoughts are with you.

We would play chess like competing spies of the cold war in a 1970 UMass dorm room. Carefully eyeing each other over the board, each with a cigarette in hand. As I pondered my next move David would blow an enormous cloud into my face after a long drawn in tobacco breath, and remark slowly, 'this smoke doesn't bother you does it?'- and we would dissolve into laughter. Goodbye, friend.

David is my uncle. I never doubted that he loved me from the time that I was a very small child. He was never unkind in any way. He was always glad to see me. No matter what age I was he talked to me in a way that felt like he really cared - from new born all the way up to 51. We all know that David loved to have fun, was an incredible comedian, and endless entertainer. I also think of something else. Underneath all of that David was always clear about who he was and what he was about. David was about family, commitment, love, compassion and connection. Whatever he had that was good, his first thought was to share it. If you were in pain he wanted to help heal it. If there was fun to be had he made sure to enjoy it completely. He never hung back from love, hugs, time, gifts, holidays. Thank you so much for all that you brought to my life David. I will always love you.

I can't remember a time when David didn't have a smile on his face or a kind word to say. I'll never forget his laughter and bright light.

Goodbye David- I still can't accept this. All I've thought of in the last three weeks is the great friend you were and how you viewed life. All my love to Laura as she copes and remembers.

David you were absolutely the greatest, and coolest Uncle to grow up with, representing all things fun, genuine, and free. Always the life of any gathering, and a tireless muse, you stop at nothing until everyone present is smiling, laughing, or entertained. Your humor has a graceful edge that keeps everyone at the edge of their seat, without ever falling off. I've never seen you act even remotely selfish, thus is your humility. Your spirit revels in the glory of simple fun and connection, and soars in your artistic endeavors. May you be blessed! May you shine on in truth and love and connection!

My thoughts are with you today and tomorrow although I can't be there in person. Give yourself time to grieve, it takes a long time and keeps coming back in waves. It may never really end, but it does more bearable. I speak as one who has lost grandparents, parents and many friends over the years.

No greater gift has a person that the gift of laughter. At that, David was a master. Being in his presence there was never a dull moment. Laughter and the joy of life was always in the air. Brian, Nancy and Stacy [President of The Bank of Fuzzleschnitz- David's spirit knows what I am talking about here] have lost a wonderful friend.

Marilyn has shared with me her love for David and for her close-knit family. I know that in his kindness David welcomed 15 year old Marilyn to stay with him at U. Mass Amherst, and that he was her very best friend. I am sure that you will provide comfort to one another in your grieving and finally in the celebration of the life of David Francis Booth. Warmly, Janet Miller Wiseman
