I knew Edith and John from my days working at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. She was always smiling and positive about everything. I always looked up to her as a role model for how to deal with life.

Dear Doris,
We loved Edith as we did John and we will always recall the joyous times and adventures we shared in Far Rockaway.
We moved to the city over three years ago and so frequently thought of your mother, longing to visit with her again. Now we are so sorry that didn't happen. When you have the time, please visit us. [email protected]

Doris, Although I never met Edith, I know from you that she was an exceptional woman. And, she has and exceptional daughter.
My deepest sympathies to you and your family.

Relentlessly cheerful and oblivious to her physical travails, Aunt Edith showed us all how to treat each new day as a joy to be enjoyed.
With love and fond memories from her nephew, Billy.

Edith was my friend for the last 35 years. She held the same position at the American Museum of Natural History that I did 45 years before I worked there. Edith volunteered with me and stayed my friend long after I left New York. I will miss her phone calls and just knowing that she was there.

I shall miss my dear cousin Edith whom I spoke to each morning for musical tidbits and family news. She always wanted to keep up with the concert scene and what we heard the night before. She will be greatly missed after 103 years!! Ginger Karren

Doris,
Having lived many places in my life, I have always cherished growing up and living behind your house in Far Rockaway. I can still still the garage window facing our back yard. I have told the story many times of how your father could be relied upon to try to save the baby birds that had fallen from trees and even making a "house call" to our new house one town away when our cat captured a bird.
I still can see your mom's broad smile in my mind's eye. Those were wonderful times....
My deepest condolences to you and yours.

I send my deepest condolences to the Kraus family and Edith's extended family and friends. Edith was my great-aunt. She was such a thoughtful, funny, lively, and happy person. She also had such a fascinating life. I miss Aunt Edith. Take good care.

Edith Bull was my grandmother. My favorite memories of her are playing scrabble, hearing her tell me stories of her life, and taking walks to the beach and the duck pond and feeding the animals!

No one was more hilarious and good-natured, and no one delighted more in everything and everybody than Edith. We are definitely poorer now

Dear Doris -- Please accept my deep condolences. You probably don't remember me, but when you and I were elementary school-age, we met at Sylvia Messe's house. Sylvia was a colleague and dear friend of my mother's, Sarajean Sherk. My parents must have made some very heart-felt comments at the time, because ever since then, I have recalled your parents as exceptional people who were making important contributions to humans' knowledge of the natural world -- and who were very nice, as well.
Please know that they -- and you -- have long been in my thoughts, and will remain as long as I can keep them there.
Fondly,
Annabel Sherk
