Family-Placed Death Notice
WHITWORTH, Jerry Mr. Jerry Dennis Whitworth, age 68, of Smyrna, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home Friday, May 24, 2013, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, May 25, 2013, in the Zeta Cemetery in Tennille, Georgia, with Rev. Jeff Cook officiating. A native of Toccoa, Georgia, Jerry retired from Delta Airlines after 34 years of service. He was a faithful Georgia Bulldog fan and season ticket holder since graduating from college. Jerry and his wife, Kay, rarely missed a Saturday in Athens tailgating with their friends of many years. He was a devoted son, loved all the "cousins", and took great joy in his 4 step-grandsons. He will be missed by many friends and colleagues. Mr. Whitworth was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Whitworth and is survived by mother, Helen Whitworth, spouse, Kay Lockhart Whitworth of Smyrna, step-children, Thomas and Lesley Cogburn of Atlanta, Charles and Meg Cogburn of Atlanta, step grandchildren, Ben, Waller, Wells, and Evans all of Atlanta, Aunts/Uncles: Quinton Peeples, Forest Peeples, Kenneth and Fay Peeples all of Toccoa, and several cousins of Toccoa. The Whitworth family will receive friends immediately following the services on Saturday. You may sign the family's personal guestbook online at www.taylorfhlouisville.com. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church Children's Home, Decatur, GA or other charity of your choice. Taylor Funeral Home, 401 West 8th Street, Louisville is in charge of arrangements.

Even though I have not seen Jerry in many years, I have thought of him often and was sorry to hear of his passing. He was the most fun-loving person I have ever met, and I'm sure he's up in the great Manuel's Tavern in the sky cracking everybody up.

To me Jerry was a Guy's Guy that had a deep affection for his friends secreatly embedded in his heart. I think he touched people in a way he didn't even realize.I will miss him. He was my kind of people.
